Industrial Hygiene and Safety Measures

Definition

An action, regulation, or other measure to prevent accidents at the workplace, avoid potential health hazards caused by the work environment, and make the workplace safer for employees.

In the SAP standard system, industrial hygiene and safety measures are divided into the following categories:

Organizational
Person-related
Technical

Use

You enter industrial hygiene and safety measures to document preventive or corrective actions that relate to a work area or persons that work in the work area, and monitor their successful completion. Industrial hygiene and safety measures are therefore an instrument used to actively improve the prevention of accidents and hazards.

You can enter industrial hygiene and safety measures for the following objects:

Work area
Risk assessment
Incident/accident log entry

Depending on which object the safety measure relates to, it has the following header information:

	Sequential number of risk assessment	If the accident location is a work area, the safety measure also has an indirect reference to a work area.

Safety Measure Category

Each safety measure is categorized from a logical point of view by the safety measure category. The safety measure category also determines whether integration of safety measures in other SAP components is possible (see “Integration“ section).

Safety Measure Type

The safety measures in a safety measure category can be grouped into safety measure types. In Customizing for Industrial Hygiene and Safety under Specify Safety Measure Types you can set which safety measure types you want to use.

Costs

If you have created and activated an implementation for the Business Add-In (BAdI) Cost Calculation in Customizing for Industrial Hygiene and Safety , you can get the system to calculate the costs of the safety measure by choosing Calculate Costs . If you do not use this function, you can enter the costs manually.

Additional Information

Using the additional information you can specify the organizational information and content of the safety measure in more detail. These details can include the following information:

A description of the safety measure of any length (as a SAPscript long text)
Protection goal

You specify the protection goal in the form of a phrase , which you choose using the input help. You must have created the phrases already and assigned them to the field. For more information, see Assign Phrase Sets to Fields in Customizing for Industrial Hygiene and Safety .
Planned start and planned end of safety measure (date and time)
Date and time of execution
Date and time of check
Effectiveness

You can enter the degree of success of the safety measure. You must have already defined the values you want to be able to choose from in Customizing for Industrial Hygiene and Safety under Specify Effectiveness .
Person responsible, administrator, responsible for check

You can specify the various persons responsible. These can be employees, external persons , or applicants .

Integration

In the standard system, safety measures of the category technical can be integrated in other SAP components , such as Plant Maintenance (PM).This means you can pass on technical safety measures as part of a notification to maintenance processing where they are known as tasks.

Safety measures can also be integrated with the cause analysis process in the incident/accident log. For more information, see Cause Analysis .
