Procedure documentationCreating Tiles Using the KPI Catalog

In Dashboard Builder, you can create tiles in which a KPI is usually display in a chart. You have a lot of flexibility in terms of the visualization and data supply of the KPI (see Creating and Editing Tiles). However, this flexibility to display almost any conceivable data in any visualization requires considerable effort since in this case, you need to create all steps from the data determination through data transfer to visualization yourself.

However, you also have the option of displaying values of default KPIs from the KPI catalog in a tile. In this case, in Dashboard Builder, in addition to the name and description of the KPI, visualization information and the required data source are also often entered automatically, such that ideally values of the KPI are displayed in Dashboard Builder immediately without any further configuration effort.

Note Note

However, to display useful data, it is often necessary to set filters in Dashboard Builder, to restrict the values to be displayed to the desired areas. However, the KPI does not contain all technical data for every KPI, meaning that you need to make some additional settings.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

To call the KPI catalog, you need an active Internet connection and a user for SAP Support Portal (S user). You can request this user by choosing the Register pushbutton on the home page of the portal http://support.sap.comInformation published on SAP site. To avoid having to log on to the KPI catalog again, install a browser certificate. For more information about this, see article 1296615Information published on SAP site of SAP Knowledge Base.

Procedure

To display a KPI from the KPI catalog in a Dashboard Builder tile, proceed as follows:

  1. Start Dashboard Builder, as described in Dashboard Builder, and choose the dashboard to which you would like to add a tile.

  2. Choose the Standard Tile pushbutton (+). The KPI catalog is called. You now have all options available for searching for and displaying KPIs to open the window for tile configuration.

  3. In the overview view, choose the radio button of the desired KPI and the OK pushbutton. You are now on the screen Add New KPI.

  4. Depending on the KPI selected, in addition to the name and description, visualization information (chart type, size, unit), the associated data source, and additional parameters are also transferred from the KPI catalog, meaning that you do not need to enter any additional parameters yourself.

To restrict the data to be displayed in tile to a useful area, it often makes sense to create additional filters.

    Note Note

    • For the KPIs for System Monitoring, the type of data source is a BW query since the associated values are stored in BW. A filter is not transferred, meaning that all values that are stored in BW are displayed in the tile. Therefore, to use these tiles, it is useful to first create filters (see Usage of Filters and Threshold Values), for example, for the system ID or the desired period.

    • The data source has a connector for the Business Process Analytics KPIs. The ad hoc business process analytics (connector adhoc) is set as the default for these KPIs; this enables you to select a technical system and an associated client to which the KPI belongs. For information about how to add a managed system for the analytics, see Usage of the KPI Catalog in Business Process Analytics.

    End of the note.
  5. Save the tiles and close the tile configuration screen. The tile with the chart for the KPI is displayed.
