Function documentationUsage of Filters and Threshold Values

When creating tiles for Dashboard Builder, you specify which data is to be displayed how from the data supply to the visualization. This also includes the option to specify filters and threshold values. This enables you to display not all data determined by the data source, as well as use traffic light colors to evaluate the displayed values or emphasize them optically.

Features

You specify the following functions in the configuration view of the tile (see Creating and Editing Tiles). Note that you have to save the tile after specifying the filter or threshold values.

Setting Filter Values

You can set filters for the characteristics available in the data source, which you use to restrict the individual fields to certain values. For this, in Available Fields, Rows, or Columns, from the context menu of the desired characteristic, choose the entry Start of the navigation path Filter Next navigation step Select Filter Value End of the navigation path.

The Define Filter Values screen appears. You can specify the desired filter operators and filter values for the selected field, whereby you can also search for the available values for this field. You can create more than one filter for a field.

Note Note

When using data sources of the type Business Process Analytics and Business Process Monitoring, you can also use Top N as the filter operator for any characteristic to consider only the largest values for the display for this characteristic. The characteristic must not be in drilldown.

End of the note.

If the field for which you create a filter is a time value, you can choose between Static Value (the filter period always remains the same) and Time Window Rolling Pattern (the filter period shifts so that the relative time difference to the present remains unchanged). To switch between these two settings, choose the corresponding pushbutton on the Filter subscreen.

Note Note

Active filters are displayed in the configuration view of the tile on the Filter subscreen; you can also delete filters there by choosing the Delete Filter for Characteristic pushbutton. You cannot delete filters that are already set at the level of the data source in the tile configuration.

End of the note.
Filtering by Measure (Conditions)

While you can use the normal filter function to filter by certain values defined during the design of the tile, you can also use an additional filter for number-type key figures that restricts the number of displayed key figures in the chart. Therefore, you can thereby restrict the display to the five largest key figures in the corresponding chart, for example, while other, smaller values are no longer display, or displayed under Others.

To create such a rule, proceed as follows:

  1. In the context menu of the desired number-type key figure, choose the entry Start of the navigation path Filter Next navigation step Filter by Measure (Conditions) End of the navigation path. A screen with the same name appears.

  2. In the Rules area, you can specify for which key figures how many values are to be displayed in the tile's chart. While all values are displayed by default, you can restrict this quantity using the following rules:

    • In the first column, you can specify for which key figure a rule is to be created; you thereby have the possible number-type key figures available in a dropdown list box.

    • In the second column, you define the rules that are to be applied for the selected key figure:

      Rule

      Description

      Top N

Only the N greatest values are displayed for the selected key figure; all other values are not output in the chart.

      Top N & Others

The N greatest values are displayed for the selected key figure, all other values are output summed up in an entry Others.

      Bottom N

Only the N smallest values are displayed for the selected key figure; all other values are not output in the chart.

      Bottom N & Others

The N smallest values are displayed for the selected key figure, all other values are output summed up in an entry Others.

  3. In the Additional Settings area, you can define the following settings:

    • Type of dimension evaluation

In the Type of Dimension Evaluation dropdown list box, you can specify whether the rules described above are to be applied individually for each dimension (Dependent), or whether these rules are applied to the entire results irrespective of the dimensions (Independent).

    • Source-specific

If the Source-Specific checkbox has been selected, the data source (function module or BAdI) and not Dashboard Builder is responsible for the application of the rules for the conditions mentioned above. There are data sources provided by SAP from the business process analytics and business process monitoring area for which this type of logic is implemented; it is not recommended to use this indicator for custom data sources.

Defining threshold values

For key figures that are displayed as a number value or in the columns, you can also define a threshold value that then determines the color of the key figures displayed. You can create threshold values for the following visualizations:

  • Number-Based

  • Bar Chart

  • Column Chart

To do so, call the context menu of the desired key figure and choose Start of the navigation path Threshold Definition Next navigation step Threshold Definition End of the navigation path. On the screen Define Threshold, you can define the threshold value. Proceed as follows:

  1. You are on the first screen of a wizard for creating the threshold values. Here, you can make two settings:

    • In the upper area, you specify for which key figures the display of the threshold values (and thereby the corresponding coloring) is to apply. If the coloring according to the threshold values is to apply for all elements, enter the wildcard * in the corresponding input field.

    • In the lower subscreen Rules Template, you specify which colors are to be used in which order for the visualization of the threshold values. You do not specify the size of the threshold values here yet, rather the threshold value type.

      Example Example

If you want a value up to 0 to be displayed as green, and a value greater than zero to be displayed as red, define the following settings in the rules template:

      Less Than or Equal To

      Show as

      Green

      Greater Than

      Show as

      Red

You do not define the valid threshold values until the next step of the wizard.

      End of the example.

To move to the second step of the wizard, choose the Done (Done) pushbutton.

  2. In the second step, you define the actual threshold values in accordance with the threshold value type defined in the previous step.

  3. Exit the wizard by choosing the OK pushbutton.
