Object documentationDetail View of a KPI in the KPI Catalog

In the KPI catalog, a list of the KPIs that meet your search conditions or the prerequisites of the calling application (see Use the KPI Catalog from Applications) is displayed in the overview view. In this overview view, the name and the description of the key figure is displayed for each KPI (see The Overview View of the KPI Catalog).

To display all information stored for the KPI in the KPI catalog, switch to the detail view of the KPI. For this, select the desired KPI in the list. To return to the overview view, choose the Back pushbutton at the top left.

Structure

All information for the KPI that is stored in the KPI catalog is displayed on the following tabs in the detail view. Note that not every KPI contains every tab:

Tab

Description

Overview

The overview contains the short description of the KPI, which is also displayed in the overview view. The version of the displayed KPI is also displayed; if more than one version of the KPI is stored in the KPI catalog, all versions with their different properties are displayed on the Versions tab.

Under the header of the same name, the various Properties of the KPI are displayed here with the associated values; these are the properties relevant for navigation that are displayed in the navigation bar of the overview view, as well as other properties that characterize the KPI.

Note Note

In principle, the KPI catalog allows any properties with any values.

End of the note.

On this tab, you can also evaluate the KPI after using it; since you are logged on to the KPI catalog with your own SAP Support Portal user, you can change this evaluation at any time. The average customer evaluation is displayed together with the number of evaluations in the KPI catalog.

Definition

The definition contains detailed information about the possible values that the KPI can assume, as well as an explanation and the significance of these values. It also contains information about the frequency of and the infrastructure used for the measurements.

Threshold

This tab contains the threshold values for the KPI status Green (OK), Yellow (warning), and Red (problem), and - if possible - explanations of the motivation and interpretation of these threshold values. However, note that universally valid threshold values do not exist for all KPIs.

Prerequisites

This tab specifies the necessary prerequisites so that values of this KPI can be measured and saved. This could be the release or installed software components of your managed systems, or also necessary configuration settings.

Usage

This tab contains information about the applications in SAP Solution Manager in which the KPI is used.

Calculation

This tab contains detailed information about the calculation of the KPI values; if possible, including the formula used for this purpose.

Technical

This tab contains all technical information for the KPI. This detailed information depends on which infrastructure is used to determine the respective KPI and store it in SAP Solution Manager. In principle, all technical names of the associated entities of the infrastructure used are named so that you can also integrate the KPI into your own applications.

Example Example

If the KPI is stored in SAP Business Warehouse, all relevant data providers and queries are named here.

End of the example.

Versions

A KPI can exist in various versions and patches that have different technical prerequisites for their use. If various versions of the KPI exist, they are displayed on this tab with a brief description of the differences under Release Notes.

If you call the KPI catalog from an application (see Usage of KPI Catalog from Applications), this often occurs in the context of a technical system. In this case, the newest version whose prerequisites suit your managed system is displayed - it is recommended that you then use this version in the application.

If the KPI catalog cannot determine the technical details of your managed system, or if you call the KPI catalog as a standalone application, the most recent version is displayed.

Used By

The user with which you are logged on to the KPI catalog is linked to your SAP customer number and thereby to the system landscape of your enterprise. In turn, in your system landscape, applications that use the KPIs from the KPI catalog report this usage to the KPI catalog.

On this tab, it is displayed whether the KPIs are configured for usage in your system landscape. In addition to the reporting application, the corresponding table displays the system ID and the system number of both your SAP Solution Manager system that uses this KPI and the managed systems from which the values of the KPI originate.

Note Note

If you have configured the use of the KPI in one of your systems, but this system is not displayed in the list, the corresponding message was not yet able to be implemented or not able to be implemented successfully, whereby notifying the use is repeated in the event of problems. In this case, check the application log (transaction SLG1) with the object SMKPI_LOG for errors. If the corresponding problem is permanent, report an incident under the component SV-SMG-CA-KPI.

End of the note.
