Operation/Exercise (Infotype 1956)
The properties and contingents of an operation or exercise.
For the highest-level force element in an operational structure or exercise target, you define the general properties. In each case, these properties apply for the entire operational structure or exercise target. A force element with these properties acts as the carrier of general information about the operation or exercise. You cannot assign authorized personnel or materials to this force element.
You use this infotype to define the following periods:
Object Period
As for every other force element, you define the validity period of the object when you create an operation or an exercise. At the same time, the system creates a record of infotype 1956 with the same object period. This period has technical functions only and does not represent the actual operation/exercise period.
Recommendation
The current date should be used as the validity start date and 12/31/9999 should be used as the validity end date. This gives you the greatest flexibility for changing structures at a later point in time.
Operational time period
By defining the operational time period, you can specify the period in which the system creates contingents automatically if the relevant Customizing settings are made or the time period in which you can create contingents manually. The operational time period must fall within the object period of the operation or exercise.
Operation/Exercise Period/Contingents
By defining contingents, you define the operation/exercise period and divide the operation or exercise into time-based phases:
The start of the first contingent and the end of the last contingent define the operation/exercise period.
Each contingent represents a phase of the operation or exercise.
The contingent periods of an operation or exercise must not overlap but can have gaps.
The lower-level operational structure or exercise target is divided according to these phases. Operation/exercise relationships with contingent assignments represent the actual operational structure or exercise target of the contingent. This allows the contingent periods to define the possible periods for operation/exercise relationships with contingent assignments.
For more information about the relationship between periods and relationships, see Contingent Assignment.
For more information about mapping operational structures and exercise targets, see Operation, Exercise, and Relocation Planning.
The following fields are available in the Structures Workbench
on the Operation/Exercise
tab page:
Status
The status of the underlying infotype record.
Valid from/To
The start and end dates of an operation or exercise (object period).
Operation/Exercise
Specifies whether it is an operation or exercise.
Category/Subcategory
The type of operation or exercise.
In Customizing for .
Intensity
Specifies the intensity of an operation or exercise.
You define the values for the operational intensity in the IMG activity Define Operation Intensity
by choosing .
Operational Start/Operational End
Operational time period
Contingent Key
The short name of a contingent.
Contingent Name
The long name of a contingent.
Valid from
/ Valid to
The validity period of the contingent.
Personnel Upper Limit
For each contingent, you specify the maximum number of positions for an operation or exercise. For the purposes of contingent planning, this value is copied as the maximum contingent size.

Properties of an exercise or operation are stored in infotype 1956 (component specific).
Note
For operations and exercises, you can define your own fields, without the need for any extra modifications. To do so, use the include CI_P1956
in table HRP1956
.
For force elements that you flag as an operation or exercise with infotype 1956, it does not make sense to use other infotypes or tab pages. You can hide such tab pages dynamically. In Customizing for .
If you use the functions for integration with Investigative Case Management, you can also use the CRM Case ID
field.
