Maintenance Optimizer 
The Maintenance Optimizer leads you through the planning, download and implementation of support package stacks, which contain a set of support packages for your systems. You can also install enhancement packages or put them into an upgrade to SAP ERP 6.0 (previously SAP ERP 2005), using the Maintenance Optimizer.
The Maintenance Optimizer gives you an overview of all maintenance activities in your system landscape.

The Maintenance Optimizer is in the SAP Solution Manager. When you start a new product maintenance procedure, the Maintenance Optimizer reads the data from the specified product version, and suggests files and systems for maintenance.
The Change Management work center gives you an overview of all maintenance procedures created or changed.
For detailed information about maintenance procedures, see the Maintenance Optimizer view. You can filter the display by specified criteria, or display detailed information. You can also open an existing maintenance procedure.
You can start a new maintenance procedure under Typical Tasks. You can do this with or without assigning a solution. For more information, see Start and General Steps.
The Maintenance Optimizer is in the SAP Support Portal. It supports you as follows:
It takes you directly to the area of the SAP Software Distribution Center for the product that you have selected for maintenance, in the SAP Service Marketplace.
You must logon with your S user. The S user is your user ID for the SAP Service Marketplace. For more information see S Users in the Maintenance Optimizer.
It reads the download basket of your S user.
You can approve selected items in the download basket for download. For further information, see Approve and Download Files into Download Basket.
It gets the confirmed items in the maintenance procedure.
All maintenance procedures in the Maintenance Optimizer are SAP CRM transactions. You can also use SAP CRM tools to display or change maintenance procedures in the Maintenance Optimizer.
The Maintenance Optimizer logs all confirmed entries in the download basket, in the table /TMWFLOW/MOBKLOG.
The Maintenance Optimizer is integrated with Software Lifecycle Manager (SLM). It supports the automatic download of files either selected or automatically calculated.
The SAP upgrade tools are integrated into the Maintenance Optimizer.
The functional scope of the Maintenance Optimizer can be extended by the functions for automatic download via the Software Lifecycle Manager.
The Maintenance Optimizer:

It collects all the necessary information in all scenarios, in one procedure. This includes the users, the product to be maintained or installed, the systems, and the assigned support package stacks.
It can calculate the files required to maintain your system landscape or the components to install an enhancement package. For further information, see Get Download Files Automatically, under Start and General Steps.
It supports the automatic download of automatically calculated files for product maintenance in your system.
It supports the automatic installation of automatically calculated files for product maintenance in your system.
You can manage a central directory of files downloaded using the Maintenance Optimizer.
When manually selecting product maintenance files, it goes to the download area of the SAP Software Distribution Center for the product that you want to maintain.
It approves the items in the Download Basket of the SAP Software Distribution Center. For further information, see Approve and Download Files into Download Basket.
It gives an overview of all open and completed maintenance procedures.
It provides a report function so that you can search for and display all maintenance procedures in the SAP Solution Manager. Further information can be found under Product Maintenance Reporting.
