Preparing to Use the Retention Warehouse System
You can transfer data from a legacy system to a Retention Warehouse System (RW System)
and then continue to manage it with ILM functions. The legacy system no longer needs maintenance and can be decommissioned.
Before you can transfer data to an RW system, you need to perform the preparatory configuration steps in the RW system and in the legacy system.
Decide whether you want to make standardized settings in the RW system for the storage and provision of legacy data or whether you want them to be enterprise-specific.
For more information, see: ILM Functions Specific to the Line of Business in the Retention Warehouse System
To be able to evaluate information from the Retention Warehouse system in an SAP NetWeaver BW system, create the connections and system aliases for the BW system and then activate the BW content supplied by SAP.
For more information, see: Preparing to Use BW Queries in Retention Warehouse
If necessary, define data views for multiple master data tables in the audit areas.
For more information, see: Defining Data Views for Audit Areas
Ensure that the the archive infostructures that are needed for data access in the RW system are filled and active.
For more information, see: Providing Archive Information Structures for Data Access in RW Systems
To enable the display of ArchiveLink documents - especially prints lists - in the RW system, make the required settings.
For more information, see: Enabling the Display of ArchiveLink Documents in the RW System
To enable the downloading of table contents from the RW system, specify the directories for the files you want to create.
For more information, see: Enabling the Downloading of Table Contents from RW Systems
To be able to log and display changes with the help of Audit Trail functions, make the functions available:
For more information, see: Enabling the Display of Changes in the RW System using Audit Trail
Prepare the legacy system that is to be decommissioned for the ILM-compliant provision of data and provide the legacy data for the transfer to the RW system.
For more information, see: Preparing and Executing Retrieval of Legacy Data
In the RW system, establish the connection to the legacy system and enable checksum generation for all data from the legacy system.
