Procedure documentationPreparing Data Transfer from the Legacy System to the RW System

Before you start to transfer data from the legacy system in the Retention Warehouse Cockpit, you need to prepare the legacy system and make the required default settings.

Procedure

Preparing the Legacy System for Communication with the RW System.

To be able to control the transfer of data from the legacy system in the RW system, you need to import the required function modules to the legacy system with SAP Note 1411982Information published on SAP site.

Establishing an RFC Connection from the RW System to the Legacy System
  1. In the RW system, start transaction SM59 and use the connection data in the legacy system to create an ABAP connection.

  2. Register the ABAP connection as follows:

    1. In the ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit, choose Start of the navigation path Archive Files Transfer Next navigation step Transfer Archive Administration Data End of the navigation path.

    2. In the application toolbar, choose Connection to the Legacy System.

    3. Enter the system ID of the legacy system, the client, and the connection to the system.

Establishing the Connection from the RW System to the File System or Content Repository of the Legacy System

The archive files of the legacy system can be stored in a system or a Content Repository. Establish the connection from the RW system to the file system or Content Repository so that the RW system has access to the archive files.

Transferring Content Repository Definitions

If you have stored the archive files or ArchiveLink documents of the legacy system to be decommissioned in a Content Repository, and if you want to transfer this data to the RW system, you first need to transfer the Content Repository definitions (settings) to the RW system. Proceed as follows:

  1. In the ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit, choose Start of the navigation path Services for Settings Next navigation step Transfer Content Repository Definitions End of the navigation path.

  2. In the navigation area, select the SID for the legacy system (double-click).

  3. In the list of Content Repositories, select the required entries and then select Transfer Content Repositories.

Predefining Data Transfer from the Legacy System Automatically
  1. In the ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit for administrators, choose Start of the navigation path Archive Files Transfer Next navigation step Transfer Archive Administration Data End of the navigation path.

  2. In the navigation area, select the SID for the legacy system (double-click).

  3. In the application toolbar, choose Customizing.

  4. Make the following decisions for transferring data from the legacy system:

    • Fill the Repository

When you transfer the archive administration data of the SN_META file from the legacy system, define whether you want to fill the repository tables of the RW system with metadata automatically.

      Recommendation Recommendation

We recommend automating this step since the metadata is mandatory for the follow-on steps in the RW system.

      End of the recommendation.
    • File Conversion

Define whether you want the RW system to execute ILM archive file conversion automatically after the archive administration data has been transferred.

    • File Store

Define whether you want the RW system to store the archive files (in the ILM store) automatically after ILM file conversion.

Enabling Checksum Generation for Information from the Database of the Legacy System

To include data from the database of the legacy system in checksum generation, create the necessary program parts in the legacy system.

Check Whether the Units of Measure and the Currencies in the Legacy System and RW System Match

During archive file transfer from the legacy system, the units of measure and currencies are compared in the RW system. The RW system automatically creates the missing units of measure and currencies. This comparison is not possible if the units of measure and currencies in the legacy system have different settings. Each unit of measure and currency can occur only once for each client. If differences occur, you have to adjust the units of measure or currencies manually, otherwise you will only be able transfer the legacy data to different clients in the RW system.

To find out which settings you need to adjust, you can run a comparison of all units of measure or currencies for each legacy system with those of the RW system. Proceed as follows:

  1. In the RW system, start the ABAP editor (transaction SE38).

  2. Run the program RSARC_COMPARE_UOMS.

  3. Enter the legacy system and the relevant RFC connection and choose Start of the navigation path Program Next navigation step Execute End of the navigation path.

  4. To view any discrepancies, select the desired table, such as Units of Measure

  5. Check whether the units of measure and currencies exist in the legacy system and whether the settings match. Differences are shown red.
