Catalog Services
Plant historian systems often contain large volumes of adhoc data with strict naming conventions, which makes it difficult to navigate, search, and extract data. You have to refer to multiple systems to fetch data. SAP MII allows you to integrate with different plant data servers, extract tags, and build a plant-specific, unified tag catalog. Here, you can create an alias namespace for a tag and restructure the tags to make it simpler to search for tags.
Catalog Services allow you to do the following:
Configure the data servers to extract and consolidate the tags to a unified tag catalog from different plant historians.
You use the standard SAP MII data server maintenance screen to configure the data servers in the catalog administration screen to extract, consolidate, and build a tag catalog. You can maintain tag catalogs for each of your MII instances. Either you can have a single centralized plant catalog on the central MII instance, or each plant can have its own plant catalog on the plant-specific MII instance. To facilitate communication between different plant catalogs, you must establish a connection to the remote MII tag catalog using the Virtual ETC connector. To do so, you must access the remote tag catalog and create a data server with type Virtual ETC. For more information, see Virtual Servers.
