Integration with SAP EWM
You can integrate SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). This allows you to link the deliveries in your warehouse with loading appointments in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
When SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling is integrated with SAP EWM, you perform all steps from arrival at checkpoint to departure from dock in SAP EWM. The system synchronizes the status of the loading appointment between SAP EWM and SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
You can monitor the transportation units (TUs) related to the loading appointments in SAP EWM. You can search for TUs using the selection criteria loading point and appointment number. You can also work with outbound loading appointments in SAP EWM in the Shipping Cockpit. For more information, see Outbound Execution using the Shipping Cockpit.
Note
In SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, the term dock is used for the location in the warehouse where goods arrive at the warehouse or leave the warehouse. In SAP EWM, the term door is used for this location.
SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling can integrate with SAP EWM in the following ways:
Planning in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling: You create the loading appointment in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, and the system creates the TU in SAP EWM.
Planning in SAP EWM: You create the TU in SAP EWM, and the system creates the loading appointment in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
Depending on which system you want to do the planning in, you set up the integration in different ways. For more information, see Prerequisites for Integration with SAP EWM.
You can plan for deliveries in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling integrated with SAP EWM either from SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling or SAP EWM, as follows:
Planning in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling
You create the loading appointment and the system creates TUs for the loading appointment in SAP EWM.
Planning in SAP EWM
You assign a delivery to a TU and the system creates the loading appointment in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
For more information, see Loading Appointments Originating in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling and Loading Appointments Originating in SAP Extended Warehouse Management.
Automatic Creation of TU Activities
If you have not already created a TU activity in the system for the loading appointment, the system automatically creates a TU activity for the loading appointment in SAP EWM when you indicate that the vehicle has arrived at the checkpoint.
You can assign these TU activities to a specific door of the loading point on the Assign Transportation Unit to Door
screen at . You can assign only one planned TU activity in this way for each door at any time.
Matching Loading Appointments to Existing Planned TU Activities
When you indicate that a vehicle has arrived at the checkpoint, the system checks in SAP EWM for planned TU activities that match the loading appointment, as follows:
The system checks if there is a planned TU activity where the external TU number in SAP EWM is the same as the means of transport ID of the appointment, and the carrier of the TU is the same as the carrier of the appointment.
If no planned TU activity matches those requirements, the system checks if there is a planned TU activity where the external TU number in SAP EWM is the same as the means of transport ID of the appointment, and there is no carrier specified for the TU activity.
If the system finds a planned TU activity with the correct conditions, it transfers the loading appointment number, the loading point, the dates of the loading appointment, and the carrier information, if necessary, from SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling to SAP EWM.
If the system does not find a planned TU activity with these conditions, it creates a TU activity for the loading appointment.
Provisional Appointments
When the system creates loading appointments based on TUs, the loading appointments have no time slots and are provisional appointments. If you are using automatic determination of loading points, the system assigns the loading appointments to loading points. If you are not using automatic determination of loading points, you must assign the loading points and time slots in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
If the system determines the loading point in SAP EWM, you cannot change it later in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
For more information, see Appointment Management and SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
Planning Times Fixed
If you assign time slots to a provisional appointment in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling that is connected to a TU in SAP EWM, the system updates the TU with the planning times. The system indicates in the TU that the planning times are fixed to show that the loading appointment has been planned.
If you plan the exact times for the TU in SAP EWM, you can create a TU with fixed planning times in the Shipping Cockpit. You must also determine the loading point in SAP EWM. The system creates a planned loading appointment in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling and assigns the time slots that cover the fixed planning times.
You can reschedule a loading appointment with planning times fixed until the vehicle arrives at the checkpoint.
You can work with loading appointments that are already planned with exact routing schedules in SAP EWM. These appointments are planned in SAP EWM, but they have exact times already, so they are not provisional appointments. Appointments that are not planning-relevant must have time slots assigned to them, but these time slots do not fill any capacity in the loading point.
Appointments that are not planning-relevant are not visible in the planning screens, but are visible in the screens where you process the appointments.
To prevent overbooking the time slots used for appointments that are not planning-relevant, we recommend you to reduce the capacity of those time slots by the amount of time needed for the loading appointments that are not planning-relevant.
Setting the Status of a Loading Appointment
If Yard Management is not active, you can indicate that the vehicle has departed from the checkpoint without first indicating that the vehicle has departed from door.
You can indicate that the vehicle has departed from checkpoint either in SAP EWM or in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling.
Changing the Date and Time After the Action is Performed
You can change the date and time related to execution actions for the loading appointment after the actions are performed. For example, if you set the status of a loading appointment to Departed from Checkpoint
later than when the vehicle actually left, you can enter the actual time of departure in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling. You can then store the actual times to analyze them later.
If you enter the actual times of the status change of a loading appointment later, the system does not update the times in SAP EWM.
