Transferring Data from the Legacy System to the RW System
You transfer the data archived in or extracted from the legacy system that is to be decommissioned to a central ILM Retention Warehouse system (RW system). This is where you convert the data according to ILM rules and store it in the ILM store. By doing so, you can use the Retention Management functions of SAP NetWeaver ILM to manage the further lifecycle of the legacy data.
To store the data from legacy systems for the required periods and to manage the lifecycle in the RW system, you need to convert the archive files according to ILM rules. During ILM-compliant conversion of an archive file, the system writes every grouping of data objects that results from the ILM rules to a new archive file. In this way, a new archive structure that corresponds to the conditions in the ILM rules is created in the ILM store.
You use the checksums that you create before and after ILM conversion and storage of the archive files to determine whether the transferred data is available in the ILM store in its entirety.
The following figure describes all the steps that you need to take in the Retention Warehouse system to receive a complete overview of the data from the legacy system.

Steps for transferring data from legacy systems to the RW system
You have prepared the legacy system (the data of which has already been archived) for data transfer to the RW system and have made the required settings.
For more information, see: Preparing Data Transfer from the Legacy System to the RW system
In the RW system, you have fulfilled the prerequisites for managing the legacy system data using the Retention Management functions of SAP NetWeaver ILM
.
For more information, see: Preparing Lifecycle Management of Legacy Data in the RW system
You have activated the archive infostructures SAP_SN_META_01
and SAP_SN_META_02
.
Note
Both of these archive infostructures are required for data access during archive file conversion. They should, however, be active before legacy data transfer occurs so that the system can automatically fill them with data.
For more information, see: Providing Archive Infostructures for Data Access in RW Systems
In the Retention Management Cockpit, call up the transfer steps in the following sequence:
To make the archive files from the legacy system available in the RW system, you need to transfer the archive administration data to the RW system and enable the RW system to access the archive files in the legacy system.
For more information, see: Making the archive files from the legacy system available in the RW system
Create checksums prior to the ILM-compliant conversion of the archive files so that you can check the transferred data for completeness.
For more information, see: Generating Checksums before Archive File Conversion
Perform the ILM archive file conversion for all archive files – metadata (SN_META), snapshots (SN_*) and transaction data (*.ADK) – and store the converted archive files in the ILM store.
For more information, see: Executing ILM Archive File Conversion and Storage in the RW System
Generate the checksums for the archive files in the ILM store.
For more information, see: Generating and Comparing Checksums after ILM Archive File Conversion
Transfer the ArchiveLink links to attachments and print lists to the database of the RW system and generate ILM-compliant ArchiveLink references according to the retention rules.
For more information, see: Creating ILM-Compliant ArchiveLink References
If table entries from the legacy system are missing in the RW system and the legacy system is no longer available, you can upload the missing entries to the RW system.
