  Automatic Determination of Reel Type

Use

The reel calculation finds the correct reel type for a specified material length and reel category by applying various formulas to the cable and reel parameters maintained in the relevant material master.

The system takes data such as the bending factor, the net cable weight, and the load capacity of the reel into account.

Prerequisites

  • You have created the reel type as a material master .

  • In Customizing for the Reel Calculation , you have specified whether plus tolerances are to be taken into account in the reel calculation, by choosing Set Plant Data and selecting/deselecting the Calc. w/o Plus Tol. indicator under Control Indicator .

Features

The system processes the reel types stored for the reel category in the specified sequence . It processes each reel type in the sequence as follows:

  1. Checking the reel and cable parameters

The system first checks the selected reel type to determine whether it meets the requirements for inclusion in the reel calculation. If the reel type does not meet a particular requirement, the system checks the next reel type in the sequence.

If the reel type meets the requirements, the system then checks whether the cable length will fit the reel type.

  2. Calculation of the maximum cable length

The system applies mathematical formulas to determine the maximum cable length that will fit the reel.

  3. The plus tolerance is taken into account

The system compares the cable length with the maximum cable length. If you have not selected the Calc. w/o Plus Tol . indicator (see Prerequisites ), it will take the plus tolerance into account.

If the cable length (with or without plus tolerance) is greater than the maximum length of the reel type, the system checks the next reel type in the sequence. The system restarts by checking the cable and reel parameters, as before.

If the cable length (with or without plus tolerance) is less than or equal to the maximum cable length, the system performs the following additional checks.

  4. Subsequent additional checks and messages

If the system determines a reel type that satisfies the above conditions, it performs subsequent additional checks on the basis of which it may issue a user message.
