Function documentation Product Maintenance Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The product maintenance function allows you to create, change, copy, and display products of the product type Material. You can also copy products to individual objects.

Features

Specifics of the SAP GUI

Product maintenance is called by choosing Maintain Products in the user menu. When product maintenance is first accessed, only the locator is displayed. When a product is selected from the hit list, the details are displayed in the work area and the locator hidden. However, you can also display the locator parallel to the work area. To do so, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Show/Hide Locator). You can set your defaults for working with the locator by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Settings). You can also specify whether product maintenance should be accessed in display or change mode.

The product maintenance screen provides the following features:

·        Locator

·        Product Maintenance Functions

These are available in the application toolbar, as pushbuttons at the top of the screen, and via the menu option Goto.

·        Tab pages

Used to group related information so that it can be found quickly and easily. Tab pages are set up in the Customizing of SAP Products under Settings for Product Maintenance ® Define Views.

·        Set types

Tab pages consist of set types. There are standard set types that are delivered by SAP and set types you define yourself. You can define on which tab pages the set types should be used. For more information, see Set Types and Attributes.

People-Centric UI – Features

For information on searching for and maintaining products in the People-Centric UI, see Products (People-Centric UI).

Activities

Creating Products

...

       1.      Access product maintenance.

       2.      Choose the create function to create a new product.

       3.      Enter a base category.
A product is always created together with a base category. The base category determines which attributes should be maintained for the product. You can select a base category using the input help.

       4.      Enter a product ID, or choose Enter and a product ID will be assigned by internal number assignment.

       5.      Enter a product description text.

       6.      Enter data as required:

¡        To create product relationships, choose Relationships.

Example

You are creating the product PRINTER. You assign the products PRINTER_CABLE and POWER_CORD to this product as accessories. You then assign the product PRINTER to the product PC as an accessory of this product.

¡        To enter the necessary data in the tab pages, see Set Types in Product Maintenance.

       7.      Save your data.

You will not be able to save the product if the application log contains errors. If there are warnings, you can only save the product as an inactive version. If there are information messages, you can save the product as an active version.

Changing Products

Product data created in an application can be changed by the application. Product data that has been imported from another system into the application, cannot be changed.

The product ID and description in the product header cannot be changed. However, it is possible to change the product descriptions in the Descriptions set type.

The base category to which you have assigned the product in the header data can similarly not be changed. You can, however, assign the product to additional product categories.

Copying Products

All data can be copied, with the exception of relationships. The copied data (such as a category and individual fields) can be changed or deleted up to the point when the copied product is first saved. Inactive products cannot be deleted.
