To access the functions shown in this table, go to the navigation bar, and choose Products, followed by the path.

In each of the respective tile sets, the Products tile displays an overview of the competitive product.

Note

Competitive product information is uploaded only to the consolidated database (CDB).

What You Should Know

Search for competitive products

® Search

You can search for competitive products based on the Type "competitive product". A list of all the competitive products appears on the Products List tile.

From this list you can view the:

  • Details of the desired product by selecting the hyperlink in the Product No. column. This displays the Products/Details tile set.
  • Description of the product by selecting the hyperlink in the Description column. This displays the Products/Product Texts tile set.
  • Sales area details of the product by selecting the hyperlink in the Division column. This displays the Products/Sales Area tile set.

Display details on a competitive product

® Details

Search and select a competitive product in the Products/Search tile set and then view its details in the Products/Details tile set.

You can create, change, and delete details of competitive products. To create a competitive product see, Creating a Competitive Product.

Competitive products are also downloaded from CRM Online. Such products cannot be modified or deleted.

Copy products

® Details ® Copy

You can create a copy of an existing product or a competitive product and add appropriate details. Such a product can only be saved as a competitive product.

You must enter a unique number for the new competitive product.

Maintain product marketing information

You can attach only one image to a product.

Possible file types that can be attached are bmp, jpeg, jpg, and gif.

Maintain product texts

You can view a short description of the product in different languages.

You can add, modify, and delete product descriptions for a product.

You can enter a maximum length of 40 characters.

Maintain sales area information

You can assign, change, and delete sales area information for a competitive product. The sales organization and distribution channel that you assign to a competitive product are displayed in the Sales Areas tile.

A sales area is a combination of the distribution channel, sales organization and division where:

  • Distribution channels define how different products can reach customers. For example, Wholesale, Retail or Direct sales.
  • Sales organization defines the national or international sales sub-sector, such as the northern region of South East Asia Pacific.
  • Division is a way of grouping material or products. It further lets you organize your sales structure around groups of similar products or product lines.

Maintain measurement units

You can assign, modify and delete details, such as the volume, weight and alternative units for the product.

The alternative units that you assign to a product are displayed in the Alternative Units tile.

You can assign more than one alternative unit for a product.

Example

A product with the base unit Piece is sold in the sales unit Box. Box is the alternative unit for the product.

Attaching files to products

You can attach files, such as Microsoft Office files, picture files, audio and video files.

Display product hierarchies

® Hierarchies

You can view product hierarchical information that has been set while creating a competitive product.

This information is displayed as a tree structure.

You can modify or delete the product hierarchy in the Product/ Details tile set.

    • Beverages
      • Tea
      • Coffee
    • Snacks
      • Chocolates
      • Chips

Maintain product relationships

® Relationships

You can establish and delete relationships between competitive products and existing products.

Creating notes for products

You can store additional information such as a comment or a description for a product.

Display product categories

® Product Categories

You can view the various sub-categories that the product is assigned to in the product hierarchy.

Choose Show All Categories to view all the product hierarchies and their corresponding categories.

You can only modify the product category for a product in the Products/Details tile set.

Note

You cannot create or maintain Campaigns, Opportunities, Structured Products, and Sales Documents or view the Condition Records for competitive products.
