Creating an Object 

Use

You use the object creation wizards available in the portal to create portal objects.

Some object types can only be created from an existing source object, while others can be created from scratch without a pre-existing existing object. The type of source object required depends on the object type.

New Object Type	Required Sources to Create New Object
Business Object	None (object is created without a portal component or a template)
iView	Any of the following: ·        Web Dynpro application ·        iView template ·        Portal component
Page	Any of the following: ·        Web Dynpro application ·        Page template
Layout	Portal component
Workset	None (object is created without a portal component or a template)
Role	None (object is created without a portal component or a template)

As an alternative, you can quickly generate additional instances of existing objects without using the object creation wizards. For more information, see the following:

Prerequisites

To view a portal component or template in an object creation wizard, you must have access permissions to the component or template. See Permission Levels.

Procedure

To launch an object wizard, you right-click the Portal Catalog folder in which you want to create the object and then choose the relevant item from the context menu.

The following table describes which menu item you choose depending on the object type you want to create:

^* To create a business object, you must right-click a sub-folder in the Business Objects root folder in the Portal Catalog.
