Purpose

The portal offers a comprehensive navigation environment for retrieving the information you need to perform your business functions. The navigation experience is determined by factors such as the navigation type that has been defined and which navigation iViews are available to a specific role.

Integration

Navigation is implemented with standard portal components, iViews and pages, shipped within the initial portal content.

Top-level navigation and detailed navigation run in iViews that are shipped on the following preconfigured pages:

·        com.sap.portal.frameworkpage (Default Framework Page).

·        com.sap.portal.innerpage (Desktop Innerpage)

Assigned to com.sap.portal.frameworkpage (Default Framework Page).

Features

·        The portal supports various types of caching for enhanced navigation performance. For more information, see Caching.

Note

It is worthwhile familiarizing yourself with some of the other factors and issues affecting navigation performance. For information, read Portal Page at Runtime.

·        The portal supports an ActiveX control-free environment, which may affect navigation performance. For information, see Enabling an ActiveX-Free Portal.

·        The navigation structure of your portal reflects your role structure.

¡        The entries in your top-level navigation and your detailed navigation iViews are compatible with the content that has been assigned to your roles.

¡        Since roles have built-in permissions, the only constraints on your navigation operations are those imposed by the permissions inherent to your role. For more information, see Portal Permissions.

·        Opening a page or iView displays both its content and any navigation iViews associated with the content. These are displayed in the navigation panel and contain assorted links to relevant information. For more information, see Navigation iViews.

·        You can configure your navigation type for various levels of top-level navigation. For more information, see Top-Level Navigation.

·        It is possible to launch the portal with a specific page. When that is the case, all the associated navigation iViews align themselves accordingly and display the information relevant to the launched page. For more information, see URL Navigation.

·        The portal offers a navigation mode based on business objects from back-end systems. Navigation is achieved by means of attached operations that implement associated iViews. For more information, see Object-Based Navigation.
