Merging Object ListsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • You first need to create the object lists that you want to merge.

For more information, see Creating Object Lists.

Context

After creating several object lists, you may want to merge them for the following purposes:

  • You want to export translation data (that is, proposal pools and/or fingerprints) for the objects in several object lists.

For more information, see Exporting Translation Data.

Note

You can evaluate several object lists at a time so you do not need to merge object lists for evaluation purposes in transaction LXE_MASTER. For more information, see Creating Evaluations.

Procedure

  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER.
  2. On the Evaluations Evaluations tab page, choose Object Lists Object Lists.

The Object Lists dialog box appears. All existing object lists are displayed in this dialog box.

  3. Choose Create new object list run Create new object list run.
  4. Enter a description of the object list in the Description field (for example, Merge of object lists 2 and 4) and save your entry.

    The Parameters dialog box appears.

  5. To refresh the domains, select the checkbox Refresh Terminology Domains. We recommend that you do this each time that you create an object list.
  6. To merge two or more existing object lists, choose the No Entries pushbutton next to Object Lists under Merge/Filter Existing Object Lists.

A dialog box appears, listing the object lists available in this system.

  7. Double-click the object lists that you want to merge and choose Execute Execute.

This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected object lists is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Lists.

  8. Choose the No Entries pushbutton next to Object Types under Merge/Filter Existing Object Lists.

The Object Type Selection (Object Groups) dialog box appears.

  9. Select the object types you want to include in the merged object list, and choose Execute.

This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected object types is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Types.

  10. Choose the No Entries pushbutton next to Collections under Merge/Filter Existing Object Lists.

    The Collections dialog box appears.

  11. Select the collections you want to include in the merged object list, and choose Save.
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of selected collections is displayed on the pushbutton next to Collections.
  12. You can also reduce the scope of the merged object list according to object name, by entering a generic string in the Object Name field. Otherwise, leave a * in this field.

    Example

You have used strict naming conventions and now want to reduce the merged object list so that it only contains objects whose names start with the string ZFIN. In this case, you would enter ZFIN* in the Object Name field.

  13. Choose the Schedule button, and schedule the object list report to run in the background.

Results

The system creates a new object list that contains some or all of the objects contained in the existing object lists that you selected, depending on how you maintained the Object Types, Collections, and Object Name parameters under Merge/Filter Existing Object Lists.

You can now use this object list as the basis for exporting translation data or creating top texts.

Example

You created an object list that contained all objects from transport requests in January. 4 weeks later, you created an object list that contained all objects from transport requests in February. Both object lists have been evaluated and all objects that arrived in the worklists have been translated. You now need to start translation of a new project in a different system and want to save time by reusing the translation data created during translation of this project. To do this, you first need to merge the 2 object lists, and then use the merged object list as the basis for the translation data export.
