Creating EvaluationsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

Before you run an evaluation, ensure that the following criteria have been satisfied:

  • At least one object list has been created.

  • You have set up the translation environment for all the target languages for which you want to run the evaluation.

  • To run an evaluation with automatic distribution, you need to define distribution parameters for each required target language.

  • The collections to be included in the evaluation must be assigned to translation graphs.

To run an evaluation with distribution, the translation directions (that is, combinations of original, source, and target languages) in these graphs must have status D (active with distribution).

  • Your translator profile contains the authorization object WRKL with the value 01.

Context

Evaluations create worklists and statistics for all target languages defined in the system, and for all of the objects contained in the object list (or object lists) used for the evaluation.

For more information, see Evaluations.

Note

This document explains how to create one evaluation.

If you want to schedule an evaluation to run periodically, such as once a week, see Scheduling Evaluations.

Procedure

  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER.
  2. On the Evaluations Evaluations tab page, choose Evaluations Evaluations.
The Evaluations dialog box appears. Any previous evaluations are displayed in this dialog box.
  3. Choose Create new evaluation run Create new evaluation run.
  4. Enter a description of the evaluation in the Description field, and save your entry.
Try to enter useful information in this field, such as whether the evaluation will run with or without automatic distribution.
    The Parameters dialog box appears.
  5. In the field Worklist Number, enter the number of the worklist that you want this evaluation to create. We recommend that you always use worklist number 1 - unless you have 2 or more translation projects in this system that you want to keep separate by means of the worklist number (for example, evaluations for project A use worklist number 1 and evaluations for project B have worklist number 2).
Regardless of the worklist number that you use, make sure that you inform all parties involved in translation of the worklist number.

If you enter a worklist number that does not exist already, then the description of the evaluation that you entered in step 4 automatically becomes the description of the worklist itself. If you want to change the description of the worklist in transaction LXE_MASTER, choose Worklists on the Evaluations tab page, change the description of the worklist, and choose Save.

  6. If you want automatic distribution to take place during the evaluation run, select the Activate Automatic Distribution checkbox.
  7. If you want the system to refresh the statistics immediately before the start of the evaluation, select the Create Preliminary Statistics checkbox. If you want the system to refresh the statistics immediately after the end of the evaluation, select the Create Statistics checkbox.
We recommend that you select both statistics checkboxes so that you can compare the “before” and “after” effect of the evaluation (for example, how many new lines have arrived, how many lines were translated).
  8. If you want to replace the contents of an existing worklist, select the Replace Existing Worklist checkbox.
If you set this parameter before starting an evaluation to update the contents of an existing worklist, the evaluation replaces the entire contents of the existing worklist with the objects in the object list selected for this evaluation. If you do not select this parameter, the evaluation simply adds more objects to those objects that are already in the worklist. If developers have deleted objects or if you have locked individual objects since the last evaluation, you need to set this parameter to remove them from the worklist and statistics.
  9. The Maximum Number of Parallel Jobs field enables you to define the number of background language jobs that your evaluation run may use in parallel. The value that you enter here depends on the number of background processes that are available in the system. If in doubt, use the default value 3, which means 3 background language jobs run at any given time.
  10. Under Object Selection, choose No Entries next to Object Lists.
The Object Lists dialog box appears.
  11. Double-click the object list(s) that you want to evaluate and choose Execute Execute. Alternatively, choose the Insert Last Object List Insert Last Object List icon and the most recent object list (the one with the highest number in the list) is automatically selected.
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of object lists that you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Lists.
  12. To select the object types that you want to evaluate, choose No Entries next to Object Types.
The Object Type Selection (Groups) dialog box appears.
  13. Double-click the object types to be evaluated and choose Execute Execute.
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of object types you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Types. The object types selected at this point do not override the object types defined in the translation environment for translation into a particular target language. For example, if you select object groups C5 to C7 for the evaluation run, but have only defined object groups C5 and C6 for French in the translation environment, the evaluation for French will only include object groups C5 and C6.
  14. To select the translation graphs that you want to evaluate, choose No Entries next to Graphs.
The Select Graph dialog box appears.
  15. Double-click the graph(s) to be evaluated and choose Execute Execute.
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of translation graphs you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Graphs.
  16. To select the target languages, choose No Entries next to Target Languages.
The Target Language dialog box appears.
  17. Double-click the target languages to be included in the evaluation and choose Execute Execute.
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of target languages you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Target Languages. If you want all object types, translation graphs, and target languages to be included in the evaluation, choose Select All Select All next to each of the pushbuttons.
  18. If you want to use the RFC Copy function to copy texts and translation data from another system during the evaluation, see Copying Texts and Translation Data by RFC for more information
  19. Choose the Schedule button, and schedule the evaluation to run in the background.

Results

The evaluation run is executed in accordance with your settings. You can use transaction LXE_MASTER to monitor its progress.

After the evaluation run has finished, worklists and statistics are available for the selected target languages. As soon as you have assigned collections to translators, manual translation can begin.

You may, however, want to reduce the manual translation workload by creating and processing top texts before you trigger manual translation.
