Process Flow for Handling Unit Integration

Purpose

When you pack document items into a handling unit in a shipping document, this process enables you to consider dangerous goods criteria for the packaging you want to select and the materials you want to pack.

Prerequisites

You have edited all the necessary IMG activities in Customizing for Dangerous Goods Management .

The HU Integration Active indicator is set in the Activate Dangerous Goods Checks IMG activity.

Note Note

The Shipping Document is the only place where you can consider legal criteria for dangerous goods when you create and edit handling units.

End of the note.

Process Flow

  1. Create and process shipping document with dangerous-goods-relevant materials

    • Definition of outbound delivery including dangerous-goods-relevant data (ship-to party, date, route → Specification of countries with their relevant dangerous goods regulations and the dangerous-goods-relevant key date).

    • Assignment of document items (dangerous-goods-relevant materials with dangerous goods indicator profile in material master).

  2. Packing document items, creating and editing a handling unit

    • Before you can pack document items, you need to create a handling unit. Then you can pack individual items into a selected handling unit. You create handling units using a packaging material proposal. If handling unit integration is activated and at least one of the materials you want to pack is dangerous-goods-relevant, the system replaces the normal packaging material proposal with the special dialog Selection of Dangerous Goods Data for Packaging (see also Entering Dangerous-Goods-Relevant Data on the Handling Unit ). Using this dialog, you can determine and enter dangerous-goods-relevant data for packaging.

    • If a handling unit already exists, the system displays its dangerous-goods-relevant data on a separate Dangerous Goods tab page in the detail view of the handling unit (see also Changing Dangerous-Goods-Relevant Data on the Handling Unit ).

  3. Triggering packaging checks and mixed packaging checks when you pack

    • The system processes mixed packaging checks when you call the packaging material proposal for creating a handling unit (with dangerous-goods-relevant data); see also Dangerous Goods Checks on Handling Units .

    • The system processes packaging checks and mixed packaging checks when you create a handling unit.

    • It also processes packaging checks and mixed packaging checks when you pack individual document items into a handling unit.

  4. Saving the handling unit when you save the shipping document

    • When you save the shipping document, the system saves the handling units you created and edited as well as their dangerous-goods-relevant data. It also processes dangerous goods checks when you save the shipping document.

Result

You can pack individual dangerous-goods-relevant items of a shipping document into one or more handling units. You can consider various aspects of dangerous goods regulations using dangerous goods check methods when you create handling units and when you pack document items into handling units.
