Core Database References

References

The product documentation of SAP Convergent Charging 4.0 includes the following database references depending on your business requirements and IT strategy:

SAP Convergent Charging supports several database technologies and suppliers. Some features of SAP CC require specialized technology, edition, version, or license of the RDBMS.

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Product Availability Matrix in PAM for more information about the available products.

SAP CC Core Database

SAP CC Core Database is a back-end database of SAP CC Core Server, the main component of the SAP Convergent Charging software product that SAP SE delivers for your industries.

Recommendation

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Library (Application Help) for more information about the system landscape architecture and the deployments of SAP Convergent Charging.

Database Technology

SAP CC Core Database supports the following database technologies:

Recommendation

Refer to the latest Product Availability Matrix (PAM) of SAP CC 4.0 for detailed information about the software product versions.

Database Editions

The default edition of the Oracle RDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS is named Standard Edition, and is suited for small and medium sized businesses. Depending on your business requirements, this edition may be inadequate because of limitations related to hardware platforms. Consider performances, high-volume data, and high-availability (HA) environments.

Reserved Storage Spaces

SAP Convergent Charging defines some reserved spaces on one or multiple disks where the database systems store data objects like database tables and database indexes. This optimizes the storage of data in the database systems of the Core Database.

This concept has different names depending on the RDBMS technology:

  • The tablespace concept is present in Oracle and IBM DB2 databases
  • The filegroup concept is present in Microsoft SQL Server technology
  • The segment concept is present in Sybase ASE technology
You create this reserved storage spaces and define a maximum size, an initial size and other options like the minimum size of each subelement into a tablespace, a filegroup, or a segment.

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Installation Guide.

Database Partitioning

SAP Convergent Charging provides advanced functions to ensure the highest level of performance (high volume, very high end-to-end throughput and latency) and high availability.

These functions require database partitioning to improve the database performance with large and very large databases.

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Sizing Guide and SAP CC 4.0 Sizing Guidelines to determine when the database partitioning applies to your business requirements.

Note

SAP CC provides some specialized SQL scripts to setup the database schema with partitions in your database systems. You select these scripts during the installation of the SAP CC system. SAPinst enables you to tick the option 'Use partitioning' when you set up its installation parameters. Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Installation Guide.

DBA Cockpit

Install and use DBA Cockpit for monitoring the databases of SAP Convergent Charging. Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Operations Guide.

Sizing

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Sizing Guide and SAP CC 4.0 Sizing Guidelines for information about the the translation of your business requirements and IT strategy into hardware requirements based on predictions considering:

  • data volume
  • performance
  • robustness
  • scalability
  • high availability
The sizes of the hardware and database are influenced by both business aspects and technological aspects.

Note

The regular growth of data volume and the load of the network must be taken into account as conditions for the initial sizing.

Installation

Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Installation Guide for information about the installation preparations, initial installation, and follow-up activities of this database system in your SAP CC system landscape.

Note

Refer to the information provided by the database supplier.

Technical Configuration

Refer to the SAP CC System Parameter Reference and SAP CC 4.0 Configuration Guide for more information about the configuration in SAP CC that relates to the databases. See the SQLHELPER_LOGIN system parameter.

Maintenance

Refer to the information provided by the database supplier for more information about the software maintenance of your database systems.

Note

The software maintenance of SAP Convergent Charging may change the database schema or the stored data. When the SAP CC system administrator implements a support package (SP) or a patch level of SAP Convergent Charging, the maintenance procedures modify the back-end database. Refer to the delivery notes (SAP Notes) provided with the new versions of SAP CC.

Monitoring

DBA Cockpit

Install and use DBA Cockpit in SAP Solution Manager for monitoring the databases of SAP Convergent Charging. Refer to the SAP CC 4.0 Operations Guide for more information.
