Background documentationILM Objects in SAP Retail

The SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) component supports the entire software lifecycle including the storage, retention, blocking, and deletion of data.

SAP Retail provides ILM objects that enhances the archiving objects with the information for data retention. An ILM object contains the settings for the ILM rules that define the duration of the retention period to be determined as well as the time reference and the time offset for determining the start date of the retention period. You can use conditions to restrict the validity of each rule.

Prerequisites

You have activated the business function Information Lifecycle Management (ILM). For information about activating SAP Information Lifecycle Management, see Activating SAP ILM.

Activities

Before data archiving, you must define retention periods in SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM).

  • You view the general settings of the ILM object categories delivered by SAP and define the settings for ILM rules in the ILM Retention Management Cockpit or ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit for Administrators under Services for Settings or in Customizing for SAP NetWeaver under Start of the navigation path Application Server Next navigation step Basis Services Next navigation step Information Lifecycle Management Next navigation step Data Archiving Next navigation step Retention Management End of the navigation path (transaction IRM_CUST).

For more information, see Making Customizing Settings for ILM Rules.

  • You assign ILM objects to audit areas in Customizing for SAP NetWeaver under Start of the navigation path Application Server Next navigation step Basis Services Next navigation step Information Lifecycle Management Next navigation step Data Archiving Next navigation step Retention Warehouse Next navigation step Audit Area Settings Next navigation step Define Audit Areas End of the navigation path (transaction ILMARA).

For more information, see Processing Audit Areas.

  • You define ILM policies in transaction IRMPOL.

For more information, see Editing ILM Policies.
