Device Dispensing Area

The device dispensing area is the area where the customer picks up the industry scanning device inside the store. The device dispensing area consists of a hardware component in the form of a dispensing wall with industry scanning device cradles and a software component in the form of GK/Retail OmniPOS – Wall Device Manager. There are both high and low rows of cradles so that disabled customers are also able to use the industry scanning devices. The number of dispensing walls is not limited and, depending on the retailer size and their needs, extra dispensing walls can be added to the store.

Role of the Wall Device Manager

As the software component of the device dispensing area, the Wall Device Manager uses internal algorithms to ensure that the industry scanning devices are, if possible, fully charged when customers remove them. Lights on the cradles indicate to the customer that the corresponding industry scanning devices are ready for removal. Special lights installed in the area of the dispensing wall for disabled customers light up when the customer requests the disabled option via a special electronic note on their customer card.

Dispensing an Industry Scanning Device

To pick up an industry scanning device in the store, the customer must do the following:

  1. Go to the device dispensing area within the store.
  2. Scan their customer card at the dispensing wall.
  3. The Wall Device Manager processes the scanned customer card and assigns it to a fully charged industry scanning device. The WDM checks the customer in the Customer Profile Service, that the customer account exists and provides the customerId to the industry device.
  4. The cradle of the industry scanning device is unlocked and the dispensing wall lights up green to indicate to the customer where to find the respective industry scanning device.

Standby Screen and Welcome Screen on the Industry Scanning Device

As long as the industry scanning device remains inside the dispensing wall cradle, the industry scanning device shows a standby screen to the customer.

Once the customer picks up a released industry scanning device a screen welcoming the customer is displayed.
