System Context

The UI looks like a normal customer app and can be used intuitively. All applications have a responsive design: The UI adapts the screen size of the appropriate platform on the smartphone or tablet device and can therefore be used on all systems without screen adaptions.

Internally, the Self Scanning solution utilizes the Self Scanning services of the SAP Omnichannel Point-of-Sale by GK. The SAP Omnichannel Point-of-Sale by GK service also provides the central functions and web services for the Self Scanning Client. A layer between the Self Scanning Client and the mobile operating system secures the communication with the hardware device.

To use Self Scanning, customers can either sign up to a customer program with a customer card or use the service as an anonymous customer (with no account). Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to have a customer database to assign the customer number to an open shopping basket.

Note:
Customer card management is not part of the Self Scanning product.

The customer can only connect their customer card/customer number to one store at a time. However, customer-specific deviations from these rules are possible. Once the customer is in possession of a customer card from a retailer, they can use their customer card in the retailer's stores in other locations without needing to sign up for each individual store again.

Barcode information for the stores:

Typically, customers scan the barcode of an item. If items do not have a barcode (e.g. bread), there must be a barcode that can be scanned in the shelf.

The customer usually weighs fruits or vegetables on a scale in the appropriate shop area. The scale receipt must contain a barcode for the customer to scan.
