Installation

Installation can be executed as an Administrator user or as a Standard user. Based on the option used, the services can or cannot be installed during the installation.

If the customer allows an Administrative account (GKInstall) to be used, install the service during the application installations as it simplifies the installation process.

If the customer does not allow installation with an Administrator account to be used, you need to carry out installation as a standard user (GKAdmin). This user does not have rights for service installation. This means that everything has to be installed without services and that services have to be manually added after the installation by a user with the necessary privileges.

How to run the installer with GKAdmin (without service installation):

  • Log on as GKAdmin
  • Start: cmd (command line)
  • Type java -jar <path to installer .jar file>
  • The Java Virtual Machine will load and start the installer.

How to run the installer with GKInstall (with service installation):

  • Log on as GKInstall
  • Start: cmd (command line)
    Note:
If the UAC (User Account Control) is enabled, run cmd with the option "Run as Administrator" - usually available via right click.
  • Type java -Djava.io.tmpdir=<path_to_gkretail_folder> -jar <path to installer .jar file>

    Example: java -Djava.io.tmpdir=c:\gkretail -jar sm.server-installer-5.7.1-b02.jar

Note:
The parameter -Djava.io.tmpdir must be set to the folder with the correct user rights as described in the chapter Special Users. Otherwise, the service files get the wrong user rights and the service cannot be started properly. So, in our example, use the "gkretail" folder.
  • The Java Virtual Machine will load and start the installer.

To disable the service installation, deselect the service option in the Application service settings panel in the relevant application installers:

Application service settings

Applications that have no services are not affected.
