CADTools

Use

CADTools is a set of tools used to optimize 3D files for display and manipulation. Polygon reduction tools can significantly reduce the density of 3D models with minimal loss in visual definition resulting in a more interactive performance, and faster download speeds for Web-based 3D applications.

In certain cases polygon reduction requires a great deal of RAM. The amount varies depending upon file type and complexity. Separate objects can be selected and reduced to minimize memory use.

Features

Using CADTools, you can do the following:

  • Invert faces and normals to reverse the order of the points. This “flips” the direction of the normals on the faces of the model.

  • Unify normals to align all normals in the same direction.

  • Remove internal parts to reduce the file size.

  • Remove hidden polygons to reduce the file size.

  • Separate meshes to group an object that is grouped under one object but made up of a number of separate meshes, as separate meshes under the objects name

  • Join equal points or more efficient models.

  • Reduce the polygon count of a model while preserving defining visual features.

  • Duplicate object polygons to display the same surface on both faces

  • Weld disjointed faces and mend cracks between poorly joined sections, overlapping geometry, and duplicated edges.

  • Simulate global illumination using the ambient occlusion technique, to render models as if they’re surrounded by a dome of light.

  • Modify the settings for certain tools.

  • Apply UV mapping coordinates to selected models.

  • Randomize objects
