Defining Maintenance Cycles and Cycle Series

Use

You can only plan a maintenance object that has maintenance cycles. A maintenance cycle in SAP SCM is similar to a maintenance plan in SAP R/3. It is a series of different types of sequential checks for a maintenance object, which occur periodically. One cycle may consist of one or more maintenance checks. Consecutive maintenance cycles may belong to a cycle series. Maintenance cycles that run parallel belong to different cycle series.

You define maintenance cycles and cycle series in the maintenance object. A maintenance object can have an external cycle series that uses the data from the SAP R/3 maintenance plan, or a local cycle series that uses SAP SCM data. However, a maintenance object without external reference can have only a local cycle series.

You can create maintenance cycles and cycle series while creating a maintenance object, or you can create them at a later date by changing the maintenance object. This procedure describes how to create maintenance cycles and cycle series for an existing maintenance object.

Prerequisites

In the external system, at least one maintenance plan, which is currently in use, exists for the functional location or equipment that you want to plan in SAP SCM. This is not relevant for maintenance objects without external reference.

In SAP SCM:

  • A maintenance profile exists that matches the maintenance plan in the external system. This is not relevant for maintenance objects without external reference.

  • You have assigned the maintenance object to a model.

Procedure

Creating an External Cycle Series for a Maintenance Object
  1. On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Master Data for Maintenance and Service Planning Next navigation step Maintenance Object End of the navigation path .

  2. Enter the required data and choose Change Maintenance Object .

  3. On the Change Maintenance Object screen on the Maintenance Cycles tab, choose Create External Cycle Series .

  4. Select one or more maintenance plans from the list.

  5. Enter a maintenance profile and a synchronization point .

  6. If required, change the Valid From date, which is copied from the external system.

  7. Choose Continue and save your changes.

Creating a Local Cycle Series for a Maintenance Object
  1. In the Maintenance Object transaction on the Maintenance Cycles tab, choose Create Local Cycle Series .

  2. Enter a maintenance profile and a Valid From date.

  3. In the Assignment of Cycle Profiles to Maintenance Object dialog box, s elect one or more maintenance plans

  4. For a maintenance object with an external maintenance plan, enter a maintenance profile and synchronization point.

  5. For a maintenance object without an external maintenance plan, enter a maintenance profile.

  6. If required, change the Valid From date.

  7. Choose Continue and choose Back , and save your changes.

Deleting a Cycle from a Maintenance Object
  1. In the Maintenance Object transaction on the Maintenance Cycles tab, choose Cycle Details .

  2. On the tree to the left of the screen, select the cycle you want to delete from the maintenance object, and choose Delete Cycle from the context menu.

  3. Choose Back and save your changes.

Adding a new Cycle Series to a Maintenance Object

  2. Select Create Cycle Series .

  3. In the Assignment of Cycle Profiles to Maintenance Object dialog box, select the required maintenance plan.

  4. For a maintenance object with an external maintenance plan, enter a maintenance profile and synchronization point.

  5. For a maintenance object without an external maintenance plan, enter a maintenance profile.

  6. If required, change the Valid From date.

  7. Choose Back and save your changes.

Deleting a Cycle Series from a Maintenance Object
