Defining Maintenance Cycles and Cycle Series You can only plan a maintenance object that has maintenance cycles. A maintenance cycle in SAP SCM is similar to a maintenance plan in SAP R/3. It is a series of different types of sequential checks for a maintenance object, which occur periodically. One cycle may consist of one or more maintenance checks. Consecutive maintenance cycles may belong to a cycle series. Maintenance cycles that run parallel belong to different cycle series.
You define maintenance cycles and cycle series in the maintenance object. A maintenance object can have an external cycle series that uses the data from the SAP R/3 maintenance plan, or a local cycle series that uses SAP SCM data. However, a maintenance object without external reference can have only a local cycle series.
You can create maintenance cycles and cycle series while creating a maintenance object, or you can create them at a later date by changing the maintenance object. This procedure describes how to create maintenance cycles and cycle series for an existing maintenance object.
In the external system, at least one maintenance plan, which is currently in use, exists for the functional location or equipment that you want to plan in SAP SCM. This is not relevant for maintenance objects without external reference.
In SAP SCM:
A maintenance profile exists that matches the maintenance plan in the external system. This is not relevant for maintenance objects without external reference.
