Strategy Defaults
You set strategy defaults to specify which aspects of a strategy you want to use in the Strategy component.
Anything you define in Strategy is available in the Strategy component in the application.
Someone with Create/Edit Contexts permissions has created a context. For more information, see Context Development.
Someone with Create/Edit Objectives permissions has created perspectives and objectives. For more information, see Perspective and Objective Library Development.
You are an administrator or a user assigned to an application group with Create/Edit Strategy permissions. If Strategy is unavailable to you, it means you do not have the correct permissions.
To add a goal diagram, you have installed the Diagram Manager component onto your client machine. For information, see the Client Installation Guide for SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management Diagram Manager located on SAP Service Marketplace.
You can do the following to set strategy defaults. You must click Save if you want the changes to take effect.
Select a context from the Context drop-down list to work with strategy defaults for this context.
Create up to three goal diagrams using the Diagram Manager installed on your client machine. Click Edit next to a Goal Diagram box to access the Diagram Manager. The first diagram must be the goal diagram. The other diagrams can show a process or a corporate scorecard image. For the sake of this discussion, the term goal diagram refers to any image in any of the three subtabs designated for Goal Diagram 1, 2, and 3. Depending on how your authentication is set up, you may be prompted to log in using your Web authentication username and password.
Edit, save, and publish the goal diagrams using the Diagram Manager, which you access using the Edit link. If the diagram is already published, you can edit it, save it, and republish it, or you can unpublish it, then edit it, save it, and republish it.
Rename a goal diagram directly inside the Goal Diagram text box. The next time a user starts a new browser session, or refreshes their current application session, the new name appears in the subtab of the Strategy component.
You can unpublish any diagram that has been published in the Diagram Manager by clicking Unpublish next to a diagram. That diagram's subtab no longer appears in the Strategy component. You might want to unpublish a goal diagram if some aspect of the diagram has changed and you want to work on it in the Diagram Manager before republishing it. You can unpublish any of the three diagrams. By unpublishing a diagram, you are able to save the diagram and its definitions without deleting it. This way, you can edit it or publish it again at a later time.
Review the Publish Date column to see if a goal diagram has been published, the date it was published, or if it is not yet published.
Change the order that goal diagram subtabs appear in the Strategy component using Change Order.
Specify whether you want to use themes or pathways in the Strategy component by clicking Display Themes or Display Pathways. Optionally, if you do not want to implement themes or pathways, you can remove the subtab from the Strategy component by clicking Do not display.
If you decide to display the Themes or Pathways subtab, the Set Themes or Pathways link becomes available in the Strategy section so you can define the themes or pathways toward objectives.
Switch between a themes implementation, pathways implementation, or no implementation. The themes or pathways are never removed from the system. If you ever choose to display one or the other again, the previously defined themes or pathways are re-implemented in the Strategy component.
Specify whether you want to display a Cause and Effect subtab in the Strategy component using Display Cause and Effect. If you decide to display the Cause and Effect subtab, the Set Causes and Effects link becomes available in the Strategy section so you can define cause and effect relationships between objectives.
Provide a vision, vision description, and associated links to appear in the Goal Diagram.
Enter a phrase that summarizes the mid-term to long-term direction of the organization and how the organization wants or intends to be perceived by the world. The statement is external (market-oriented), and stated in visionary, colorful terms.
For example, this vision title “Provide the top financial services” can be used with this vision description “Become the respected leader in financial services with a focus on end-to-end customer relationships and satisfaction, resulting in optimized balance sheets for our partners”.
Define mission, mission description, and associated links to appear in the Goal Diagram and also the Context Details page of the Scorecard component if you are using a scored context.
Enter a phrase that summarizes an internally focused statement geared toward results — usually financial, process, or customer service-oriented — sought by the organization over the mid-term to long-term. The Mission is often a statement that describes, in motivating and memorable terms, the top-level targets of the organization. Mission statements often focus on the financial, process, or customer service aspects sought by the organization.
For example, this mission title “Double revenues” can be used with this mission description “To double revenues in three years through operations excellence, driven by an intense customer focus”.
