Developing Milestones and Submilestones
You have Create Initiatives permissions granted by your administrator and you have access to the Add Initiative, Edit, and Delete links in the Initiative Summary to create initiatives and edit and delete initiatives you created. With these permissions, you can also edit and delete initiatives that you own that were created by someone else.
You are the milestone or sub-milestone author or owner if you want to edit or delete your own milestones and sub-milestones. If you do not have the correct permissions, selecting the milestone or sub-milestone will display information about it instead.
You can do the following to create and maintain milestones and sub-milestone in the Initiatives Summary:

What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
Create a milestone for the selected initiative |
Click Add Milestone or Sub-Milestone |
Most items you define for a milestone appear in the Milestone Summary or Fishbone Diagram. In the Prioritization Matrix, the schedule status (Urgency) of the milestones and sub-milestones are plotted in relation to their importance. The milestone's actual end date, target end date, and status method determine its schedule status color and may also be a key indicator into the schedule status of its initiative. For more information, see Creating a Milestone or Sub-milestone. |
Create a sub-milestone for the selected milestone |
Click Add Milestone or Sub-Milestone |
For more information, see Creating a Milestone or Sub-milestone. |
Edit a milestone or sub-milestone |
Click on the item to edit and make changes in the Edit Milestone/Sub-Milestone dialog box |
Editing a milestone's schedule status may cause its initiative's schedule status to change if this milestone was a key indicator into the initiative's status. Changing a milestone's schedule status changes where the milestone or sub-milestone is plotted in the Prioritization Matrix and may also change where its initiative is plotted. Changing a milestone's importance will change the color and thickness of the line in the Fishbone Diagram, and will also change where the milestone or sub-milestone is plotted in the Prioritization Matrix. When a milestone is completed, the milestone author or owner must edit it to specify the actual end date. |
Delete a milestone or sub-milestone |
Click on the item to delete and then click Delete in the Edit Milestone/Sub-Milestone dialog box |
Deleting a milestone's schedule status may cause its initiative's schedule status to change if this milestone was a key indicator into the initiative's status. |
Change a sub-milestone to a milestone or change a milestone to a sub-milestone |
Click on the item to switch and then select or deselect Change this milestone to a sub-milestone in the Edit Milestone/Sub-Milestone dialog box |
