
You can display the application servers that are logged on to the SAP Message Server by opening transaction SM51 or by choosing . These are the instances of your SAP system. Their status indicates which application servers are active in this SAP system.
You can also administer the application servers, and manage and display the status of the users and work processes in all application servers belonging to the SAP system.
The functions for managing users and work processes can be found in the user and processing tools.

Server Table
The application server display includes the following information:
Server Name: The name of each application server.
The name usually consists of the host name, the SAP system name, and the SAP system number.
Host: Host name of each application server
Message Types: Services provided by the application server. This contains the configured SAP work process types (Dialog, update (Update and Upd2), Enqueue, Batch and Spool) as well as the following services:
ICM. This means that on the application server in question an Internet Communication Manager (ICM) is configured that can accept or send requests from the Internet (HTTP and other protocols).
J2EE: The Application Server Java is configured on this server. This means it is a server that can execute both ABAP and Java/J2EE programs.
VMC: The SAP Virtual Machine Container (VMC) is configured on this server, which means that there is a Java VM as well as an ABAP VM in the work process.

Status of Server: An application server can have one of the following statuses:
Initial
Started
Active
passive
Shutdown
Stop

You can add the following columns by changing the layout:
Service: Service port or service name under which the server can be reached.
Host Address (IPv4): IP address of the host in IPv4 notation
Host Address (IPv6): IP address of the host in IPv6 notation
Port (port number): Port number
Shutdown Status: State within soft shutdown (if the state field has the value shutdown)
Shutdown Information: Further technical information about soft shutdown (for example error or timeouts) is the state field has the value shutdown
Work Information: Information on the current server utilization is displayed here. There is a difference between normal load, high load, and resources exhausted.

You can use your cursor to select an application server by clicking on the relevant line (except for the
function). The function that is executed then refers to this server.
Authorizations
When you execute the following functions, a logon is made on the selected server (exception: Refresh), on which the function (or transaction) is then called. The following requirements must be met:
You have authorization for the transaction in question
A valid dialog user logs on to the application server
Otherwise, an error message is displayed.

The operating system monitor (OS monitor) delivers statistical information on the host platform of an SAP instance.

Displays the RFC connection table for a selected instance.

Displays the communication blocks for a selected instance. Communication blocks contain Internal information for troubleshooting.
Here you can display the virtualized sockets of a local server.

) you can display the content of the directory and then view the individual files from there.
Here you can activate the status of the application server.
Here you can deactivate the status of the application server (status = passive).
Here the application is terminated with a soft shutdown. All server processes currently in process will be completed first. New requests can no longer be accepted by the server. After current requests have been processed, the server is shut down.
Here you can terminate the application server with a hard shutdown. All processes currently being processed in the server will be terminated. The server is shut down immediately.
Here you can test the connection of the application server.
Here you can close the connection from an instance to the system.
Here you can activate the trace for a selected instance.
Here you can deactivate the trace for a selected instance.
With this function you can refresh the display of the ACL File (access control list) for individual ports of the application server.

Displays the ACL file that control access to the SAP GUI port on the selected application server. You can see which hosts are allowed to open SAP GUI connections to this server.
Re-reads the ACL file for the SAP GUI port on the selected application server.
With this function you can re-read the ACL File (access control list) for individual ports of the application server. If you have changed the ACL file, you can activate the changes this way without having to restart the application server.
