Use

You can plan campaigns in SAP APO as follows:

      Automatically

By using campaign optimization, in which the system creates campaigns
The system tries to find an optimum number and sequence of orders in a campaign, as well as the sequence between the campaigns, while taking setup and storage costs into account.
For more information, see Campaign Optimization.

By processing the campaign heuristics in sequence
For more information, see Heuristics for Campaign Planning.

      Manually

You can use the Detailed Scheduling Planning Board or campaign transaction to determine the number and sequence of orders in a campaign, as well as the sequence between the campaigns.

Integration

To process SAP APO campaigns in the SAP ERP system, you must set up the required technical integration between SAP APO and the SAP ERP system.
For more information, see Integration of SAP APO and SAP R/3 and the SAP Library of SAP ERP under Logistics
Production Planning and Control Production Planning – Process Industries Production Campaign.

Features

You can plan campaigns in the system in the following areas:

      Production planning run
To plan production campaigns in the production planning run, you can use campaign optimization and campaign heuristics.
For more information, see Production Planning Run.

      In the DS planning board
You can plan campaigns using graphics. In the resource chart, campaigns are displayed in Gantt charts as bars above the operation bars for the resource, and span the operations of the campaign. You can use drag and drop to move the campaign bars on the time axis. The planning functions of the Detailed Scheduling planning board (DS planning board) help you to schedule campaigns. You can also execute automatic campaign optimization.
For more information, see Campaign Functions in the DS Planning Board.

      Campaign transaction
This transaction does not use graphics, but it provides an overview of the campaigns, orders, and dates in a table.
For more information, see Campaign Functions in the Campaign Transaction.

Activities

You should plan campaigns such that manual and automatic planning complement each other. You can start with campaign optimization. If the requirement situation changes, you can correct the planning manually. You can later execute campaign optimization again. You can alternate these steps multiple times to get a satisfactory result.
