You use job monitoring to monitor business-critical background jobs in the following contexts:

  • Solution, business processes, and interfaces

  • Technical systems and technical scenarios

Monitoring Objects for Job Monitoring

Monitoring objects collect data in your managed systems and report it to SAP Solution Manager. A monitoring object for job monitoring consists of the following:

  • Job identification, which defines the set of job instances to be monitored

  • Monitoring schedule and data collection interval

  • Set of key figures and corresponding thresholds for alerting

  • Configuration of the creation of incidents and other notifications for alerts

There are currently two types of monitoring objects for job monitoring:

  • Business process monitoring objects (BPMon)

These have to be assigned to business process and business process steps, or interfaces and interface steps.

    Note Note

You can create and manage business process monitoring objects for job monitoring from the Systems tab page of job documentation.

    End of the note.
  • Technical monitoring objects (JobMon)

These use the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI), and can be assigned to the following:

    • Business processes and business process steps, or interfaces and interface steps

    • Technical scenarios

    • Both of the above

    Note Note

There are two ways to establish the link between a technical job monitoring object (JobMon) and a business process or interface:

    • Create a new technical monitoring object for a business process or interface of a solution that has been configured to use the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).

    • Assign an existing technical monitoring object to a business process or interface of a solution that has been configured to use the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).

Use of the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI) can be specified for each solution individually in the monitoring configuration accessible from the Business Process Operations (new) work center.

    End of the note.

Prerequisites

You have set up monitoring objects for job monitoring.

Features

The Monitoring view of the Job Management work center is the central access point to job monitoring and alerting functions. It has the following subviews:

Alert Inbox

The Alert Inbox view displays job alerts generated by business process monitoring.

Note Note

This view displays a job-specific subset of the alerts displayed in the Business Process Operations work center.

End of the note.

You can do the following for job alerts:

  • Display business context and detailed information

  • Send an incident message to IT Service Management

  • Confirm the processing of open alerts for a single alert or for a group of alerts for a job

  • Select a scheduled job in the target system, analyze runtime errors, or perform a job analysis to trace the reason for an alert

For more information about general Alert Inbox functions, see Alert Inbox.

Unified Alert Inbox

The Unified Alert Inbox view displays job alerts for technical monitoring objects (JobMon) generated by the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).

Note Note

This view displays a job-specific subset of the alerts displayed in the Business Process Operations (new) work center.

End of the note.

Note Note

If the technical job monitoring object (JobMon) is assigned to a solution and a business process or interface, this information will also be displayed in the Unified Alert Inbox.

End of the note.

You can handle the job alerts as follows:

  • Confirm the processing of open alerts for a single alert or for a group of alerts for a job

  • Display an action log of all activities performed

  • Postpone alerts (suppress alert generation) for a specified time

  • Log in to the managed system for detailed analysis and problem resolution

  • Open the technical system editor to configure the technical system

For more information, see Managing Technical System Information.

  • Open the landscape browser

For more information, see Managing System Landscape Information.

  • Configure and display an application for problem analysis

For more information, see Managing Problem Analysis.

For more information about general Alert Inbox functions, see Technical Monitoring Alert Inbox.

Job Monitoring

In this view, you can track the status of all metrics of technical job monitoring objects (JobMon), independently of the alert creation. For this purpose, for each active technical monitoring object (JobMon), it provides a list with the metric data for previous data collector runs.

Note Note

The Job Monitoring view is also available in the Technical Monitoring work center.

End of the note.

You can access job monitoring data from the following contexts:

  • Technical scenarios

  • Solutions

  • Systems

For more information, see Unified Job Monitoring.
