Basic Activities on Buy Side
The starting point for many activities that you perform as a purchaser is the personal object worklist (POWL). Such a worklist is available, for example, for the following:
Suppliers and potential suppliers
Qualification templates and qualification requests that have been created in your company
Questionnaires
Purchasing categories
From here, you can easily identify the objects on which you want to work, and you can create new objects. Depending on your personal requirements, you can also define additional worklists.
Questions and sections are the building blocks of questionnaires. Questionnaires are used in the supplier qualification and supplier evaluation processes. Purchasers with the Questionnaire Manager
(/SRMSMC/QUESTIONNAIRE_MANAGER
) role can create and edit questions, include them in questionnaires and delete them once they are no longer used.
Questionnaires are used in the supplier qualification and supplier evaluation processes to collect information about suppliers. Category Managers collect the information either from the suppliers themselves in supplier qualification, or from internal stakeholders who have the Appraiser
(/SRMSMC/EVALUATION_APPRAISER
) role in supplier evaluation.
Purchasing categories are an important structuring element in SAP Supplier Lifecycle Management. As a purchaser, you are responsible for one or more purchasing categories, such as office furniture and hardware. Depending on the type of goods they provide, you assign your suppliers to one or several purchasing categories. In supplier qualification, you can then send out questionnaires tailored to specific purchasing categories and compare suppliers within the same category.
You can use supplier hierarchies to represent supplier structures.
If your company operates on an international level, it is likely that texts created by your purchasing department are required in more than one language. Therefore, dedicated translation applications are available that translators can use to translate the texts.
