Model The concretization of a material planning object (MPO) on the basis of a material master record.
A model specifies an MPO at material master record level (for example, a
truck of type X from manufacturer Y
as the model for the MPO
Medium-size truck
). You use models to create links between MPOs and concrete materials.
Technically, the model is implemented as an iPPE variant of type S_DFMDL.
The following assignments are possible between a model and a material, or between a model and an MPO:
A model is based on a material master record and inherits its properties.

You can define an inheritance logic between the MPO and model as required. For more information, see Material Planning Object .
In Customizing for
Defense Forces & Public Security
, you can define whether a material can be assigned to exactly one MPO (regardless of its object status) or to exactly one approved MPO as well as multiple MPOs that have not been approved, by choosing

→
Control Assignment of Material to Material Planning Objects
.
Materials can be assigned to a model only if their material group/class is the same as that of the MPO.
Several models can be assigned to an MPO, but a model can be assigned to only one MPO.
In Customizing for
Defense Forces & Public Security
, you can define that material master records of certain material types are not permitted to be assigned as models, by choosing
Organizational Flexibility

Exclude Material Types for Usage as Models
.
The following properties are available for models in the application
Authorized Material and Material Packages
:
Header Data
Material Planning Object
The MPO to which the model is assigned.
Description
The long name of the MPO.
Model
The name that is assigned to the model automatically when a material master record is assigned and that can be changed manually by the user, and a user-definable long name.
Basic Data

Model
See header data.
Lock Flag
Allocated when the MPO is assigned.
The following data is copied from the underlying material master record:
Material
The material number and short text.
Base Unit of Measure
The unit of measure in which the material stocks are managed and from which the unit of measure of the MPO is derived.
Old Material Number
The number that was used/is currently used to manage the material (in a different system, for instance, or in a card index).
Division
A group of materials that the system uses to determine the sales areas and business areas of a material.
Product Allocation
The product allocation determination procedure determines how product allocation is carried out.
X-Plant Matl Status
The cross-plant material status restricts the usability of the material for all plants, that is, it defines whether a warning or error message is displayed if you include the material in a particular function.
Assign Effect. Vals
Indicates whether you can assign values to the effectivity parameters or override the date when you explode an assembly or a finished product.
Material Group
The assignment to a material group (material groups group together several materials with the same properties).
Ext. Matl Group
The assignment to an external material group.
Lab/Office
The assignment to the design office, laboratory, or laboratory worker responsible.
Prod. Hierarchy
An alphanumeric character string for grouping together materials by combining different characteristics. It is used for analyses and pricing.
Valid from
The date as of which the cross-plant material status is valid.
GenItemCatgroup
A grouping of materials that helps the system to determine item categories during sales document processing.
Gross Weight, Net Weight, Weight Unit, Volume, Volume Unit, Size/Dimensions, EAN/UPC, EAN Category
The weight and measurements of the material.

tab page
On this tab page, you can display customer-specific fields.
Classification
tab page
On this tab page, you can assign a model a class from SAP R/3 classification. For more information, see the documentation for
Classification System
in SAP Library under

Classification.
Documents
tab page
As in the case of force elements, you can also assign documents to models. See also Documents .
The properties of models are stored in the following tables:

For this object, you can define your own fields, without the need for any extra modifications. To do so, use the include CI_PVMPO in table /ISDFPS/PVMPO.
Each model is based on a material master record and assigned to exactly one MPO.
