 Restrictions

Definition

Restrictions are conditions based on characteristics which you use to determine the sequence of orders in Model Mix Planning.

You create a restriction with reference to a planning version and you assign it to exactly one production line.

Usage

Using restrictions, you can define certain limits on the production capacity. This may be necessary, for example, if the availability of a particular component is limited or similarly if personnel capacity is limited. You define these limits by formulating conditions for the occurrence of certain characteristic values in a planning period. These conditions are then used by the Model Mix Planning procedures to create a realistic production plan in the medium-term horizon and the best possible order sequence in the short-term horizon. Thus, you can ensure optimum utilization of labor and machinery as well as material availability.

For example, you may use a restriction to define the following condition: A maximum of 50 vehicles with air conditioning can be produced in one shift as the system vendor can only supply this quantity. As a consequence, only 50 vehicles with air conditioning are scheduled per shift in planning. See also: Quantity Restriction

Structure

A restriction consists of the following parts:

The following diagram shows the elements of the restriction:

To cover the various requirements, the System provides six different restriction categories .

Integration

You can also combine restrictions into restriction groups to group them according to certain criteria, such as all restrictions for engine production and all restrictions for final assembly, for example.
