Structure - Graphic
This function gives you an overview of the project structure and all the project elements it contains. Multiple selection is possible. You must select at least one project element. You can also edit the project structure and its elements.
Note
You can also edit the project in the table view (see Structure -Table) or in the detail view (see Structure - Detail).
You can carry out the following activities:
Create and delete project elements
Cut, copy, and paste project elements
You can use the Reset Settings
button to undo cut or copy selections. If you have selected one or more project elements to cut ot copy project elements, you can reset the selection. The Reset Selection
button is only active
if you have selected a project element for cut and paste and the focus Is on a project element for which pasting is possible.
Multiple copy and paste: If you have selected a project element, the system also takes all subordinate project elements that belong to this project element into account when copying the objects. When you paste a project element, the system also inserts all sub trees.
Expand or collapse subtrees
Select or deselect project elements
Set filters (see Setting the Filter)
Drag and drop project elements:
You can place an element between two other elements in the structure tree by using the selection column, dragging the element to a different position in the tree, and dropping it between two elements.
You can make an element a sub object of another element by using the selection column, dragging the element to the relevant project element, and dropping it on this project element. If you have selected multiple project elements, you can only paste them if the have they same type (such as phase, checklist item, and so on).
Drag and drop of project elements is available for operational projects, templates, and simulations. It is only available in edit mode.
Note
If more than one project element is selected and you drag and drop, the order in which the elements are inserted is the same order in which the elements have been selected.
Project elements that are placed directly below the project definition cannot be moved to a lower hierarchy level and project elements that are in a lower hierarchy level cannot be moved to directly below the project definition.
The following drag and drop activities are possible for the different project elements:
Project element |
Drag and drop activities |
Phases |
You can change the order of phases in a project by using drag and drop as they are all on the same level. You cannot drop a phase onto another project element. |
Tasks (including master tasks, sub projects, and milestones) |
Tasks below the project definition: You can change the order of tasks below the project definition. For other tasks (such as tasks under phases or tasks under checklist items), you can use drag and drop to change the order of the project elements and the hierarchy (by creating sub objects). You can move tasks to other phases. You cannot move tasks under phases below the project definition. |
Checklists |
Checklists below the project definition: You can change the order of checklists below the project definition. As they are all on the same level, you cannot create sub objects using drag and drop. For checklists under phases: You can change the order of checklists under a phase and you can drag and drop a checklist to another phase. It is not possible to have a hierarchy of checklists and checklists under a phase cannot be dropped under the project definition. |
Checklist items |
You can change the order of checklist items. Checklist items can only occur below checklists. As they are all on the same level, you cannot create sub objects by using drag and drop. You can move checklist items below other checklists. You can even move checklist items from a checklist below a phase to a checklist below the project definition. |
Note
The project definition is always located at the top of the hierarchy. Therefore, no drag and drop is possible. You cannot use cut, copy, paste, or drag and drop for mirrored tasks and checklist references. If you select a task together with a mirrored task and drag them to a different position, the system moves both the task and the mirrored task, but when you drop both objects, only the task gets inserted.
Access the detail data for the project by positioning your cursor on the required object in the graphical view and using the primary mouse button. Only the first four tabs of the detail data are visible. For more information, see Graphical View.
