Classification Hierarchy
An arrangement of buckets within a portfolio structure that is an alternative to the standard portfolio hierarchy.
You use this business object to create a different bucket structure consisting of the items and initiatives from the standard portfolio hierarchy. You group these business objects according to certain criteria differing from the standard portfolio hierarchy, which often represents the organizational setup of the company.
In a classification hierarchy, you do not create business objects such as items and initiatives, but you can assign the existing business objects from the standard portfolio hierarchy. You can create reviews, collections, and buckets within the classification hierarchy.
Several classification hierarchies can be defined for each standard portfolio hierarchy. There are two types of classification hierarchies, as follows:
Portfolio-specific classification hierarchies are created from a portfolio, and inherit authorizations from the portfolio.
Cross-portfolio classification hierarchies are created at portfolio level, and can use business objects from multiple existing portfolios.
A classification hierarchy is always related to one or more portfolios.
A company in the consumer products industry that has a standard portfolio hierarchy representing its organizational structure, might also set up a classification hierarchy that represents the product structure of the company. The classification hierarchy includes the same business objects as the portfolio hierarchy, but assigned differently to reflect a different structure.
