Version Creation
You can create a version of a given portfolio item or portfolio initiative. The versions of the object are then displayed in the embedded dashboard of versions in the Miscellaneous
view of the Item Details
screen or Initiative
Details
screen, under Versions
.
If you want to create project versions of assigned projects for items or items of initiative, you must have done the following:
Assigned a project to the item or to at least one item of initiative. Otherwise, the corresponding checkbox is disabled.
Created versions in project management. Otherwise, the Project Version Name
field is empty.
If you create a version of an initiative, the system not only creates a version of the initiative, but also versions of all assigned items, which are then assigned to the initiative version. The version type of the items will be the same as the version type of the initiative.
You can create versions of all initiatives of a lowest-level bucket.
Version Type
You must select the version type. You can change the version type from simulation to snapshot or vice versa, as follows:
Snapshot
If you choose the snapshot version type, the version details will correspond to the item details or initiative details as they were at the time you created the snapshot. You cannot change the version object afterwards.
Simulation
If you choose the simulation version type, the version details will correspond to the item details or initiative details as they were at the time you created the simulation. To execute simulations, you can change the version object.
Note
You can create an unlimited amount of versions of both version types for an original object.
Project Version
You can create project versions by selecting Create Project Version
(for item) or Create Project Version for Assigned Items
(for initiative).
Note
For the initiative, this checkbox is selected by default. You can create project versions for assigned items only when you create the initiative version.
The Project Version Name
field is displayed, where you can choose a project version in project management. The next time you create a project version for the same item, selected versions from the previous item version creation are no longer available.
Note
For the initiative, in the Project Version Name
field, the system displays only common versions for all assigned items.
For the item, the system automatically copies the chosen project version name in the Version Information Name
field and sets the field to display mode.
Decision Points/Phases
If you create a version, the system creates versions of all decision points and phases.
Metrics
If you create a version, the system creates versions of metrics as a snapshot.
To create versions of an item or initiative, you navigate to the Item Details
or Initiative Details
screen. Here, you choose the Miscellaneous
view and then the Versions
subview.
You choose Create
, or you choose You can also
and then you choose Create Version
.
You enter the details for the version: You must choose the version type Snapshot
or Simulation
. You can decide whether you want to create a version for linked projects, but this is optional. If you create several versions
for one item or initiative, you must make unique entries in the Version Information ID
field.
When you save, the system displays the version information. From the Version Information
screen, you can navigate to the object version by choosing the respective pushbutton.
For more information, see Version Details.
For more information about simultaneous version creation for all items or initiatives in a portfolio or in a bucket, see Version Creation (Administration).
