Process documentation Creating a Taxonomy Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

You first have to create a taxonomy in order to be able to classify documents into the categories of the taxonomy in question.

Query-Based and Example-Based Taxonomies

There are two ways to create a taxonomy:

·        As a query-based taxonomy

·        As an example-based taxonomy

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

These two ways of creating a taxonomy correspond to the query-based and example-based classification procedures. You can only carry out query- or example-based classification after you have created a query- or example-based taxonomy (see Structure linkClassification (Classifying Documents).

Recommendation

For performance reasons we recommend that you create a maximum of 10000 categories. Each category should contain a maximum of 400 documents.

Requirements

You always have to create an index first, regardless of whether the taxonomy is to be query-based or example-based. The index to be created can be a classification index or a combined search and classification index.
