Creating Evaluations

Evaluations create worklists and statistics for all target languages defined in the system, and for all of the objects contained in the object list (or object lists) used for the evaluation.

Prerequisites

Before you run an evaluation, ensure that the following criteria have been satisfied:

At least one object list has been created.
You have set up the translation environment for all the target languages for which you want to run the evaluation.
To run an evaluation with automatic distribution, you need to define distribution parameters for each required target language.
The collections to be included in the evaluation must be assigned to active translation graphs.
To run an evaluation with distribution, these graphs must have status D (active with distribution).
Your translator profile contains the authorization object WRKL with the value 01.

Procedure

Call up transaction LXE_MASTER.
On the Evaluations tab page, choose Evaluations.

The Evaluation dialog box appears. Any previous evaluations are displayed in this dialog box.
Choose (Create)
Enter a description of the evaluation in the Description field, and save your entry.

The description that you enter here is displayed for the translators when they call up their worklists.

The Parameters dialog box appears.
In the field Worklist Number, enter the number of the worklist that you want this evaluation to create. The default worklist number is 1, and we recommend that you always use worklist number 1 — unless you have 2 or more translation projects in this system that you want to keep separate by means of the worklist number (e.g. evaluations for project A use worklist number 1 and evaluations for project B have worklist number 2).

Note
Whatever worklist number you use, you need to inform all parties involved in translation of the worklist number.

If you want automatic distribution to take place during the evaluation run, select the Distribution checkbox.
If you want the system to refresh the statistics immediately before the start of the evaluation, select the Initial Statistics checkbox. If you want the system to refresh the statistics immediately after the end of the evaluation, select the Statistics checkbox.

Note
We recommend that you select both statistics checkboxes so that you can compare the “before” and “after” effect of the evaluation (e.g. how many new lines have arrived, how many lines were translated via automatic distribution).

If you want to delete the current worklist, select the Deletion checkbox.

The system then deletes the existing worklists for this worklist number and rebuilds them based on the objects in the object list(s) that you evaluate in this evaluation. Objects that are not included in the object list(s) that you evaluate in this evaluation are removed from the worklists and statistics. This is a good way of removing objects that have been deleted by developers since the last evaluation from the worklists and statistics.
If you switched on Renew Domain Assignment when you created the object list, you do not need to select the Renew Domain Assignment checkbox here.
If you do not want the translation status of objects to be calculated (e.g. you simply want to test the runtime of the evaluation), select the No Status Calculation checkbox.
The Max. No. of Parallel Jobs field enables you to define the number of background jobs that your evaluation run may use in parallel. The value that you enter here depends on the number of background processes that are available in the system. If in doubt, use the default value 3, which means 3 background jobs run at any given time.
Under Object Selection, choose No Entries next to Object Lists

The Object Lists dialog box appears.
Double-click the object list(s) that you want to evaluate (the most recent object list is the last in the list) and choose (Execute).
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of object lists that you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Lists .
To select the object types that you want to evaluate, choose No Entries next to Object Types.

The Object Type Selection (Groups) dialog box appears.
Double-click the object types to be evaluated and choose (Execute).
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of object types you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Object Types .

Note
The object types selected at this point do not override the object types defined in the translation environment for translation into a particular target language. For example, if you select object groups C5 to C7 for the evaluation run, but have only defined object groups C5 and C6 for French in the translation environment, the evaluation for French will only include object groups C5 and C6.

To select the translation graphs that you want to evaluate, choose No Entries next to Graphs.

The Select Graph dialog box appears.
Double-click the graph(s) be evaluated and choose (Execute).
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of translation graphs you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Graphs .
To select the target languages, choose No Entries next to Target Languages.
The Target Language dialog box appears.
Double-click the target languages to be included in the evaluation and choose (Execute).
This takes you back to the Parameters dialog box. The number of target languages you selected is displayed on the pushbutton next to Target Languages .

Note
If you want all object types, translation graphs, and target languages to be included in the evaluation, choose (Select All) next to each of the pushbuttons.

Choose (Save).
This takes you back to the Evaluation dialog box.
Select your evaluation, and choose Activate.
Schedule the evaluation to run in the background.

Result

The evaluation run is executed in accordance with your settings. You can use transaction LXE_MASTER to monitor its progress.

After the evaluation run has finished, worklists and statistics are available for the selected target languages. As soon as you have assigned collections to translators, manual translation can begin.

You may, however, want to reduce the manual translation workload by creating and processing top texts before you trigger manual translation. For more information, see Creating Top Texts for a Worklist.
