Connecting File Servers and Web Servers
SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search supports searching for documents on file servers and Web servers that do not provide their own search engine. To enable search results from a file server or Web server to be displayed on the Search UI, you connect the file shares that you want to search to SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search and index the contents using the search engine integrated in SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search.
Note
You can configure the authorization check for the search results, so that only those documents are returned that the logged-on user is allowed to see.

If you use a central proxy server in your IT landscape, you have set up an appropriate proxy for the TREX used for SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search.

Windows file shares based on MS Active Directory
For crawling: A user in MS Active Directory with read access to the documents and directories to be indexed and for extracting the authorization data from MS Active Directory for each crawled document (if you want to use File Search with authorization checking).
To connect a file share to SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search, you require the following information:
This is the URL that points to the file share or Web server to be connected
User with access to the file shares or Web pages to be crawled and at least read access rights in MS Active Directory for extracting the authorization data for each crawled file (for File Search with authorization checking)
Domain that the user belongs to
Recommendation
We recommend that you note the required information before starting the actual connection procedure.
Optional: Configure authorization checking for File Search in SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search.
More information: Configuring Authorization Checking for File Search
Create a File Search object connector with the Connection Wizard.
This also creates the associated crawls and the index in the indexing layer (TREX).
More information: Creating Search Object Connectors for the File Search
Start crawling the connected file shares to fill the index (initial indexing).
