Note the following changes and new features in the administration and configuration of SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search:
BWA 7.20 Version of TREX (New)
To allow some of the new features and enhancements listed below, the SAP NetWeaver Search and Classification (TREX) 7.1 component has been replaced by a new version. This new TREX version is the version that is used in SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA) 7.20.
Caution
In SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search, the BWA 7.20 version of TREX is installed and licenced only for use as a search engine. You cannot use this TREX for analysis scenarios.
If you update your system from SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search SPS 01 or SPS 02 to SPS 03, you must install the BWA 7.20 version of TREX manually from scratch.

Terminology (Changed)
Changes to the terminology of the configuration and administration tools have resulted in the following changes to the user interface and in the documentation:
Old Term |
New Term |
|---|---|
Administration Cockpit |
Connector Administration Cockpit |
Template Modeler |
Search and Analytics Modeler |
These changes were made to harmonize the terminology with SAP Business Warehouse to allow more exact documentation of future features in the area of analyses.
Cross-Model Attributes (New)
If there are attributes in various models with values that have the same meaning and common analysis is possible, you can group these values in a cross-model attribute. This allows you to search for attributes across connectors or use a specific attribute to refine search results.
You manage cross-model attributes in the modeler in the Model Queries roadmap step.
More information: Managing Cross-Model Attributes and Defining Model Queries
Attribute Groups (Enhanced)
Attribute groups created in the modeler can be used as further search criteria in advanced searches, they can be queried individually or together.
The response attributes in an attribute group can be displayed as a group in the search results. For example, the attributes Value and Currency in the attribute group Price are displayed in the details of a search result as Price: 100 EUR.

Weighting of Attributes to Define Relevance (New)
To influence the location of items in the search results list, you can vary the weighting of the attributes for a search query in the Relevance column in the modeler. You can assign a higher or lower weighting to the attributes. The higher the weighting of an attribute, the more influence it has in the calculation of the relevance of an item. Items with a higher relevance are located higher up the search results list.

Consistency Check (New)
You can use the new Consistency Check feature in the connector administration cockpit. Select the search object connectors that have an error status and start the consistency check. The system performs a sequence of tests to establish the cause of the error.
More information: Using the Connector Administration Cockpit
Standard User Roles SAP_ESH_SEARCH and SAP_ESH_RFC_ENDUSER (Changed)
The roles for standard users have been changed. The roles used until SPS 02 in the SAP_ESH_RFC_ENDUSER composite role are now included in the SAP_ESH_SEARCH role. The SAP_ESH_RFC_ENDUSER composite role is no longer required.

Support for User-Defined Properties for Searching in KM Systems (New)
In addition to the default KM properties, additional user-defined properties are now supported for searching in SAP Knowledge Management.
More information: Connecting SAP KM
Refining by Value Ranges (New)
As of this release, you can refine the search results by predefined value ranges. For example, you can narrow down the search results to hits within a specific date range. For example, you choose whether you want to see the results for the current day, the previous day, the current month, or the current year.
The system supports attributes of the types DATE and INTEGER. Cross-model attributes of type INTEGER do not support ranges.
The ranges for an attribute of type DATE are predefined and fixed. TREX determines the ranges for an attribute of type INTEGER at runtime. No configuration is possible.
Configuration of Models for SAP KM (Changed)
The support for user-defined properties in SAP KM systems results in changes to the configuration of search models and search object connectors for SAP KM.
You must not use the existing software component, SAP_KM, for new connectors. As of this release, create a new software component for your KM systems, for example Z_MYCOMPANY_KM, if it is not already available. To prevent manual changes being lost during updates of KM models using the import function, you should use a further superordinate software component in which you include your new software component for KM models. This ensures that your changes are kept in the event of updates.
After you have created a KM system as a back-end system, you must import the indexes for the KM system into SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search as models. In the model, you define where the individual KM properties are to appear as attributes on the user interface (UI areas).
Enterprise Search Query Log (New)
The new log records the details of search queries and searches that were started on the Search UI or automatically by the system. The log is used to analyze errors and to optimize the search offering.

Smoke Test (Changed)
The basic configuration test has been extended and renamed to the “smoke test”. In addition to the basic configuration, you can now also check the installation prerequisites automatically. The test has a revised user interface and links directly to the appropriate troubleshooting information.

Information About Troubleshooting for Restore and Restart (New)
The new documentation in the Troubleshooting section provides tips on how you can restore and restart your system in the event of a crash.
