Use

Use Visual Composer to create and model portal content objects. You can model roles, worksets, pages, iViews, and Business Suite containers, work centers, and views.

You can also add applications to models: either reuse existing portal components and portlets or create applications within your model using the Visual Composer composite view.

Prerequisites

See Getting Started.

Procedure

...

       1.      Choose Model New or drag a portal content element icon onto an existing, open model.

Note

Dragging element icons onto existing open models follows logical workflow rules. Each component, which is a potential drag target, displays text indicating what may be dragged onto it. For more information, see the tables in Reusing Existing Components.

       2.      If you created a new model, in the Create New Model dialog box, choose a portal object model and supply the required information:

                            a.      In the Name field, enter a name for the model.

                            b.      From the Repository dropdown list, choose the location in which to create the model.

                            c.      From the Software component dropdown list, choose the software component in which to store the model.

                            d.      From the Development component dropdown list, choose the development component in which to store the model.

You can choose an existing development component from the list or you can click New and create a new development component.

Except for iViews, this is all the input required. If you choose to create an iView model, the iView Templates dialog box opens and additional information is needed:

                            e.      From the list, choose an iView template. The available templates are:

§         URL iView - Displays the contents of the target URL

§         Service Map iView - For Business Suite, serves as a central point of entry and guided access to the services of SAP service modules; it can display pictographs, text descriptions, and links to user tasks

§         Related Services iView For Business Suite, displays optional content related to the subject of the current iView

§         SAP Transaction iView - displays business information from SAP systems

§         BEx Web Application iView - displays information generated in SAP BI by BEx Web applications

                              f.      Supply the parameter values relevant for the selected iView template.

       3.      Click OK.

The model is created and a tab, labeled with the model name, appears on the Portal Layout board.

You can open multiple models and use the tabs to switch between them to continue working with a specific model.

Note

To edit properties of an element that you created within a higher level, existing model—such as an iView within a page or a workset within a role—or to work on a composite view application created within an existing model, you need to drill down into the required model or composite view. More information, Working with Portal Content Models.

       4.      Save the model, deploy it to the portal, and, if relevant, check it into the DTR.

Note

Before beginning to work with a model it may be necessary to activate the Portal Layout board by right-clicking it and choosing Play from the context menu.

...

Modifying Layout

You can change the layout of the content you created in all modeling areas, including the navigation panel areas (the detailed navigation, dynamic navigation, and related items/services), the top-level navigation, and the Portal Layout board. Rearrange the layout by dragging the modeled element to the desired position.

Result

A model is created upon which a portal content object, such as an iView or page, can be based.
