Use

Several internal repositories are used in the standard delivery. They are controlled by Knowledge Management. They are used for storing and staging various content and metadata and for navigating in this data. These repositories are preconfigured and preactivated in the standard delivery.

Features

The following internal repository managers and repositories are used in Knowledge Management.

Note

Note that by default, some repositories that contain system data are not displayed in the main directory.

Caution

Pay attention to the information in Before You Start: Important Information . Never change the persistence mode of an internal repository.

  • CM Repository Manager

Supports the entire spectrum of Knowledge Management functions.

The following CM repositories are contained in the standard delivery:

    • /documents (for managing content such as text documents)
    • /collaboration (for managing Collaboration content such as feedback)
    • /discussiongroups for managing discussion items
    • /userhome for personalization data and managing favorites
    • /grouphome for managing group-specific favorites
    • /rolehome for managing role-specific favorites
    • /reporting_backend for storing report-specific data
    • /taxdata for storing classification data persistently
    • /~system for storing low-level data such as thumbnails

For the SAP NetWeaver Information Broadcasting scenario, the CM /BIuserhome repository is used to manage user-specific BI data.

  • Light CM Repository Manager

Light CM repository manager is a lightweight CM repository that offers a subset of the CM repository functionality with improved performance.

  • Taxonomy Repository Manager

Provides access to taxonomies used for document classification.

Navigation in a taxonomy repository features special functions (such as creating ad-hoc links to documents associated with a given category in a taxonomy). The taxonomy repository manager is not a fully-fledged repository manager, since it does not actually store classification data persistently. The CM /taxdata repository is used for this.

The /taxonomies repository is part of the standard delivery.

  • Content Exchange Repository Manager (ICE)

Provides access to administration data and content distributed using the content exchange service.

The /ice repository is used for this in the standard delivery.

  • GUID Repository Manager

Allows the use of short IDs for access to objects

The /guid repository is used for this in the standard delivery.

  • PCD Repository Manager

Used to search for objects (portal pages and iViews) in the Portal Content Directory (PCD)

The /pcd repository is used for this in the standard delivery.

  • Virtual Root Repository Manager

Provides a virtual main directory that gives you access to all repositories defined in KM.

The /vroot repository is used for this in the standard delivery. However, it does not appear in the main directory itself. Rather, it is the technical prerequisite for displaying the main directory.

  • Entry Point Repository Manager

    Generates and manages entry-point-specific data.

The /entrypoints repository is used for this in the standard delivery.

  • Thumbnail Repository Manager

Uses plug-ins to generate thumbnails of documents.

The /thumbnail repository is used for this in the standard delivery.

  • Calendar Repository Manager

Uses transports to enable read and write access to meetings and appointments that are stored on Groupware servers.

This repository manager is used by Collaboration.
