Use

The GUID repository manager is used system-internally to manage short IDs. If an application launches a short ID, the GUID repository manager automatically provides a link to the associated object.

Note

In Knowledge Management, RIDs (resource identifiers) for objects can be up to 2048 characters long. For applications that use shorter character lengths of up to 256 characters, for example, MICROSOFT Office, the URI mapper service can provide a shortened GUID. This is called the short ID on the user interface.

The maximum length of the short ID is 256 characters. It is independent of the storage location for the object and remains the same even if the object is moved.

Integration

Since you can only insert links with a maximum length of 256 characters to documents in some external applications, you must specify the short ID if you want to link to documents in KM (see Setting Links in Documents to Objects in KM Folders ).
