Use

The following sections outline the tools that support you in integrating content from BEx objects and BW objects into the portal.

Features

Tools in Business Explorer

As an author, you generate BEx applications within the BW system using the following Business Explorer (BEx) tools:

BEx Web Application Designer

BEx Web applications are created as Web templates using BEx Web Application Designer. When Web templates are displayed in the Web browser, they are called BEx Web applications. More information: BEx Web Application Designer .

You can call BEx Broadcaster from Web Application Designer to broadcast Web templates to the portal. In Web Application Designer, choose Web Template →   Publish →   BEx Broadcaster. BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the broadcast settings offered for the Web template you have edited in Web Application Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the Web template. You can also publish the Web templates directly from Web Application Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. More information: Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports .

BEx Report Designer

You create reports using BEx Report Designer. More information: Enterprise Reporting .

You can call BEx Broadcaster from Report Designer to broadcast reports to the portal. In Report Designer, choose Report  → Publish → BEx Broadcaster. BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the broadcast settings offered for the report you edited in Report Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the report. You can also publish the reports directly from Report Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. More information: Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports .

BEx Query Designer

You can create queries using BEx Query Designer. More information: BEx Query Designer .

You can call BEx Broadcaster from Query Designer to broadcast queries to the portal. In Query Designer, choose Query → Publish → BEx Broadcaster. BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the broadcast settings offered for the query you edited in Query Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the query. You can also publish the queries directly from Query Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. More information: Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports .

BEx Broadcaster

Precalculated documents and links to BEx Web applications, reports, or queries in Knowledge Management are generated using BEx Broadcaster. For more information, see Integration Functions in BEx Broadcaster .

BEx Analyzer

BEx Analyzer is the platform for creating and editing BEx Analyzer workbooks. More information: Analyzing and Planning Data with Microsoft Excel .

In BEx Analyzer, you can call BEx Broadcaster by choosing Tools → BEx Broadcaster from the Analysis toolbar. BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the broadcast settings offered for the workbook you edited in BEx Analyzer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the workbook. Generating iViews with workbooks is not directly supported from BEx Analyzer. You have to manually create the iViews with workbooks in Portal Content Studio. For more information, see BEx Analyzer Workbook as an iView in Portal .

Tools on the Portal

Portal Content Studio

Portal Content Studio is a tool in the portal. It allows you to manually include BEx and BW content f and to set specific properties (for the portal cache for example). You can edit portal objects created in Business Explorer using Portal Content Studio. More information: Integration Using Portal Content Studio .

When iViews are created, they are assigned an iView ID. This iView ID has to be unique in a folder in the portal catalog. More information: Using the Portal Catalog .

KM Content

The KM Content from the Content Administration role of the portal is the central environment on the portal for creating and managing content in Knowledge Management. In KM content you can access various BW documents in Knowledge Management. More information: Integration Using KM Content .

Role Upload

You can also integrate BEx objects and BW objects into the portal using role upload. More information: Integration Using Role Upload .

 

When working with BEx Web applications (SAP BW 3.x format), you can use the Role Menu and Alert Monitor Web items to call BEx objects directly from a BEx Web application that you integrated into the portal as an iView. Migration iView

Using the migrations iView, you can migrate BW documents from the BW server to a CM repository in the portal and then edit iViews using Web applications and the KM. More information: Migration of Documents into the CM Repository .
