Creating SystemsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • The relevant system template exists in the portal content directory (PCD).

    Note

System templates are associated with connectors, each for a specific data source. Connectors are deployed on the Java AS.

  • For JDBC database systems, a JDBC driver, which is specific to each database management system in use, must be deployed Java server.

Context

You create a system to connect to a specific back-end application or web service. To create a new system use one of the following methods:

  • Duplicate an existing system

    1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the system you want to duplicate, choose Copy.

    2. In the context menu of the folder to which you want to copy the system, choose Paste and complete the wizard. For information about the two paste methods, see Copying an Object or Folder (Copy / Paste) and How Are Portal Objects Linked? .

      Note

If the copied system had a system alias, the alias is not copied to the newly created system.

  • Create and upload an XML file that describes the system

The creation of the XML script is generally created by content developers. The file must then be uploaded to portal content, either by the developer or the system administrator. For more information, see XML Content and Actions .

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Start of the navigation path System Administration Next navigation step System Configuration Next navigation step System Landscape End of the navigation path.
  2. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder in which you want to create the new system, choose Start of the navigation path New Next navigation step System End of the navigation path.
  3. In the wizard that follows, choose a system template from the Available Templates step and enter the information required in the System Properties step. An asterisk indicates mandatory fields.

Some of the requested information is common to all systems; others are dependent on the connectivity demands of the specific system.

The unique system ID, which is the identifier that is registered in the PCD, is created automatically if you do not enter it. If you choose to enter a system ID, you can include any of the following characters:

    • a-z

    • A-Z

    • 0-9

    • _-~()

The ID must not exceed 100 characters.

If you want all your systems to follow a specific naming convention, create the ID manually and add a uniform prefix for each system.

Results

You have created a system through which you can access a back-end application or any other data source accessed through a URL, and retrieve its data. This system is now part of the portal system landscape and will appear in the System Landscape Overview .
