Use

After you have created a system, you need to edit some of its properties to enable connectivity to an external application. The property values of the respective portal system, which constitutes a description of that application, must have corresponding values. Systems based on system templates inherit the property values of the templates.

After the system properties are stored in the Portal Content Directory (PCD), they serve as a definition of the system and the connector to which they relate.

To access system properties, in the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the system, choose Start of the navigation path Open Next navigation step Properties End of the navigation path.

In the property list, enter values for those properties that require user input. Guidelines are provided in the respective sections for the following out-of-the-box system templates:

System Templates

The templates for any given portal system define the specific parameters needed to connect to an application (the actual back-end system) and contain a reference to its connector, for example the SAP application connector or the JDBC connector. The system object, which is based on the template, inherits the template properties; some properties already have default values, while others require their values to be set.

Note

Some systems, for example, SAP applications and ESF, have multiple templates, the differences depending on how connectivity is implemented in a specific network configuration.

Each of the templates whose properties are described in this section contains many properties. Not all of the properties are editable, and not all of them are needed to establish a connection to a back-end system. The tables in this section list only those properties needed to define connectivity.

You must set the relevant property values and modify default values, if necessary, to ensure connectivity and authorization to the system whose data your users need to access.

Caution

It is important that these templates are modified only by a qualified system administrator.

To finish configuring your system, assign an alias and, if necessary, configure user mapping. For more information, see the following:
