Scanning for Cases of Identical Source and Target TextsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

See the Prerequisites section in DEMS Objects for Quality Assurance .

Context

This scan finds translations identical to the source text for which it was created. You perform this scan for objects in a specific object list .

Finding such cases can have two uses:

  • The translation is an excellent candidate for automatic distribution and should be defined as a proposal with quality status A.

Examples of such texts would be technical names that are not language-dependent, such as $USR$, 100%, company and product names, and so on.

  • The translation is a result of the source text being copied by mistake.

Pinpointing and correcting such cases would help you improve the quality of the translation.

Procedure

  1. Call transaction LXE_MASTER.
  2. Choose Start of the navigation path DEMS Objects Next navigation step Text Compare Next navigation step According to Object List End of the navigation path.
  3. Enter your selection criteria for the scan as follows:

    Name of DEMS objects

Enter a text string in the Name field that will help you recognize the DEMS objects when you call them up in transaction SE63.

    Description of top texts

You can enter a description of up to 40 characters in the Description field to document how you created the DEMS objects, for example.

    Source language

In the Source Language field, enter the required source language for the scan.

    Target language

In the Target Language field, enter the target language for the scan.

    Object list

Choose F4 on the Object List field, and select the object list that contains the objects for which you want to perform the scan.

    Maximum number of source texts

In the Number field, you can specify a limit to how many source texts are contained in the DEMS objects produced by the scan.

If you want the scan to find all source texts with proposals that match your selection criteria, enter a suitably high number here.

    Generate object list

If you leave this entry field blank, the system creates DEMS objects that you can process directly in SE63 . If you enter the value X in the Generate Object List field, the system creates an object list that contains the translation objects created in the run.

This enables you to create worklists for the top texts by evaluating this object list. To do this, you first need to create a graph for collection SAP_TRANSLATION_DEMS and then activate it for the target language that will process the DEMS objects.

    Generate local list

If you enter the value X in the Generate Local List then the system generates a local list for you to process the DEMS objects. For more information about local lists, see the Local List documentation.

    Include similar texts

If you leave the Ignore Similar Texts field blank, the system scans for similar texts and groups them together in the top text objects (for example, Create Document , Create document , and Create Document 2 ). This enables you to create consistent translations in the proposal pool.

If you enter the value X in the Ignore Similar Texts field, no scan for similar texts takes place.

    Disparity

If you select the Disparity checkbox, the system scans for target texts that are not identical to the source text.

    Language settings

Select the Check Language Definition checkbox to include the language settings as defined in LXE_MASTER in your scan.

  4. Choose Execute and schedule the job to run in the background.

Results

The system scans the objects in the object list specified by you, and creates DEMS objects in accordance with your selection criteria. The DEMS objects contain source texts in the requested source language for which an identical translation exists in the requested target language.

You can now trigger processing of these DEMS objects. For more information, see Processing DEMS Objects for Quality Assurance .
