Defining the EISLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

To define the Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), you need to create a system definition in one of the following ways:

  • Create a portal system.

You can create a portal system by using the portal System Landscape wizard (more information: Creating Systems ) or by using the XML Content and Actions feature. For information on system properties, see Editing System Properties in the portal administration guide.

  • Use the portal destination service to find an existing system, which may exist in an alternative system repository than the portal system landscape. For more information, see Portal Destination Service .

Note

Every system within SAP has an alias to identify it, whether or not it is in the portal system landscape. Using the portal destination service, the system alias is called by getDestinationNames .

The result in either case is a system definition with an alias.

Testing Connectivity (Optional)

  • To test the connection to a portal system, use the Checking System Connections feature of the portal.

  • For a system found by means of portal destination service, connectivity is confirmed if an IConnection object is returned after invoking getConnection . For more information, see Getting the Connection .
