Use

Pages organize content according to topics, roles, and other categories that simplify content assignment.

You can create a portal page by:

  • Copying an existing portal page

A copied page is a clone of the source page, including its content. Depending on whether you perform a simple paste, or paste the page as a delta link, the new page may or may not have a direct link to the original, thereby determining if it will be affected by changes made to the source page.

  • Running the New Page wizard , which uses:

    • A predefined template, from which the page acquires its properties

    • A default layout, whose containers determine how content is displayed

When you create a page, the wizard stores it in the Portal Content Directory (PCD) and displays it in the Portal Catalog, in the folder from which you ran the wizard. From there, you can open the page to add and edit content, as well as to edit its properties and format.

  • Copying an object from a Generic Portal Application Layer (GPAL) repository

You can copy pages from certain GPAL repositories and paste them into the PCD.

When you create or edit a page, you assign a page layout to it. You use the page layout to structure the content of the page. You can select the page layout either in the New Page wizard, when you are creating the page itself, or in the Page editor.

Procedure

To copy a page:

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the page that you want to duplicate, choose Copy .

  2. From the context menu of the folder to which you want to copy the page, choose Paste . The Copy wizard appears.

  3. Select a copy method:

    • Create a Copy: The new page is not linked to the source page; changes made to the source page will not affect the new page.

    • Create a Delta Link: The new page is linked to the source page. Changes made to the source page will affect the new page. For information about delta links and inheritance, see How Are Portal Objects Linked?

With both methods, changes made to the template affect the new page.

  4. Complete the wizard.

To create a new page from scratch:

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder to which you want to add the new page, choose Start of the navigation path New  Next navigation step Page End of the navigation path. The New Page wizard appears.

  2. In the Page Properties step, enter values for the required parameters. Note that:

    • The Page ID must not exceed 100 characters and may include any of the following characters:

      • a-z

      • A-Z

      • 0-9

      • . _ - ~ ( )

    • The Page ID Prefix is an optional namespace for portal objects.

  3. In the Page Template step, choose the layout template that will be the basis for structuring the content on the page.

    • Choose Default Page Template to assign one or more predefined page layouts provided with the portal.

    • Choose Web Dynpro Page to include the option of assigning custom layouts that you create. For more information, see Creating a Web Dynpro Page Layout .

  4. In the Page Layouts step, define the list of layouts that are available for the page. You can associate a number of layouts with the page, to allow portal users to personalize the display of their content at runtime.

    1. Build your list of available layouts using the options available in the Available Layouts list and adding them to the Selected Layouts list. The layouts in the Selected Layouts list will be available for users of the page at runtime. If you are creating a Web Dynpro page, you can also choose from layouts created through the New Page Layout wizard and which reside in the Portal Catalog.

    2. From the Default Layout dropdown list, choose the layout that will be the default page layout.

  5. Complete the wizard.

The Paste as PCD Object wizard appears.

  3. Specify the general properties of the new page, and complete the wizard.
